How do you feel when people ask you how much you've lost?
Until I get to goal (I'm 12 weeks out and over halfway there, which I'm pretty happy with), my answer is usually vague, something like "The answer to that question is 'not quite enough, but I'm getting there'". That seems to calm their curiosity.

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.
Honestly it makes me think, "Wow, you're a super rude person." My go to response is "not enough yet" followed by a very obvious subject change.

I've been very open since the beginning, so I will give an exact number, even to strangers. I will also tell them about WLS if they are interested. And yes, I do tell my highest weight of 275 lbs.
For me, when a SMO or MO ask about my weight loss, I am very up front. I get lots of questions that I answer honestly. In my mind, this helps remove the stigma surrounding WLS and I wouldn't want someone to walk away from ME believing I loss this weight via diet and exercise.

I have no problem telling people how much I lost. What I hate is when people ask me, out of the blue, if I have loose skin. Then they look disappointed when I say "none yet". Some even go so far as to tell me, almost gleefully, that I'll be sure to have some soon. Those are the same people who tell me about everyone they know who know someone who had weight loss surgery and regained it all. WTH is wrong with some people, lol?
One day I'd had enough, and a lady was gleefully telling me about loose skin, regain, and wls complications. I said, "So, have you heard of any good car accidents lately?" And she got all upset and said, "Why would you ask me that?" I said, "You seem to really enjoy the misfortune of others." That shut her up.

I'm pretty open, and not too many people have come out and asked, but I always do a quick calculation of what I assume their intentions are. One was a mother of a Bariatric surgeon, so she gets it, and was so excited for me, another was someone with a heap of chronic health issues, so she was excited about my health etc. Sometimes I just go with "a lot".
Mostly I get asked how I'm losing, if it's a small setting or one on one, I tell them wls. I've been so open about it, I assume every one knows by now in my personal life. But if I get asked in a larger setting, my go to is often "cocaine and fast living" hahaha that usually kills it.

When I was in the losing phase, I did not like it when people asked me that. It was probably a combination of embarrassment and shock at how nosey some people can be (I cannot even imagine asking someone such a personal question).
Now at almost 9 years out, the question does not bother me, but honestly I cannot remember the last time anyone even asked me that. Most people have forgotten I used to be 200 pounds heavier.

I can certainly understand why the question makes people uncomfortable. I don't mind telling people when it's more of a one on one or small group situation. But, I have literally had someone yell the question at a family gathering from across the room. That's when it bothers me!
