Not able to drink optifast what can happen will I still get to have surgery
I get that, I was just trying to be a devil's advocate for all those *****plied that she HAD to do it after surgery, and they weren't talking about CanadIan programs.
Buying shakes from programs is a shakedown scam. I'm sure these Canadian programs must have some exceptions. If not, like you, I would just find something else I could stomach and pretend I was chugging their Optifast crap. Noone's going to die from not drinking "their" particular shake.

I hate, hate, hate those programs that require patients to buy crap from the surgeon's office. Not just those that insist on a specific brand, but the ones that won't operate unless you buy from them first. It's beyond unethical.

I too had to drink the shakes back in 2002 for 6 weeks. But, my husband is scheduled for gastric sleeve June 15 and he is having to get in 100 grams of protein a day. He is drinking ISOPURE (we bought it at the vitamin shoppe) There are lots of flavors like fruit punch, grape, lemonade etc. it has 40 grams of Protein 0 carb 0 fat 160 calories. He's also taking Vitamins to make sure he is getting everything he needs. And drinking 48-64 ounces of water.
I am in Canada (Alberta) and the surgeon had me on 3 weeks of Ensure High Protein prior to surgery and has gave no indication that I HAD to drink it after...and I haven't.
I'm in Canada (Alberta) & my program had me taking Ensure High Protein & 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt.

For those that didn't do shakes, what did you do pre-surgery and immediately post surgery? How did you get your protein? Im just curious...

You have good replies. I found using a sippy type cup helped because I couldn't "smell" the protein drink. Odors can make me nauseated. I also used a Starbucks or Tervis type insulated cup with a lid and used a straw - for the same reason - so I couldn't smell it.
I've found that having lots of ice so it is really cold helps - or have it really hot and steamy and sip it.
Keep trying new ways to get it down - it's only for one week.
Best wishes,
Penny
