9 years out and problems!
It's been 9 years since surgery. I am having several problems. I stopped taking my vitamins and have developed iron issues. My regular doctor doesn't know what to test for...so we just know my iron and vitamin D are low. Now I'm having *****ly feeling all in front of stomach and back down to my hips. Is there anyone else from weight loss surgery that has experiences this?
I have changed primary care docs a couple of times since surgery (2009) and each time I have printed off a list of required labs for post bariatric patients. It helps! In your position, I'd suggest that you work in partnership with your doc so s/he knows where to look....
In the meantime, I'd suggest you start NOW with a good regimen of vitamins as prescribed post surgery, with special emphasis on B1, B12 sublingual, and D.
He doesn't know what to test for? Test for everything. All vitamins and minerals. It will take 14 or 15 vials of blood. You need a DEXA bone density scan as well.
Being this far out from WLS and having been noncompliant with supplements, you are likely deficient in many thibgs. You can get a lot of them up with oral vits. But iron youwill struggle with. Ask for a referral to a hematologist. You almost certainly need iron infusions.
This is life threatening. Don't take no for an answer.

I also got lax on my vitamins. Numb feet, bone pain, weakness....All the could have been prevented by taking my vitamins. Please learn from us!!!This is not an 'easy way out' it's a lifetime commitment. Yes I now take a lot of vitamins but could have avoided a lot of troubles if I would have kept up with labs and vitamins
