Pre surgery weight loss experiences
How has anyone's weight loss journey before surgery been going. I know noone at this stage where I've been for 5 months so hoping to hear others share on this. It's been good.... it's been bad.... but I REGRET NOTHING. I blessed and I pray y'all are even more blessed than I am.
Hello Kathryn, I'm still in the pre-surgery status. I am scheduled for surgery 06/27/17. So far I've lost about 20 lbs. My weight fluctuates I'm not saying I've always been good, but I'm definitely trying to put myself into the healthier mindset so that it's not such a shock after surgery. I will admit I do have my cheat meal every now and again.

I am still pre-surgery. I've been on the insurance required supervised diet for a little over 2 months now and I've lost about 20 lbs. Its not the fastest, but I am trying to take some time to learn how/what to eat after the surgery. My Dr tells me as long as I don't gain on the supervised diet the insurance will approve me but I still am hoping to reach 299 (twoterville LOL) before surgery so 12 more lbs to go.
I have started exercising (literally yesterday) so I am hoping that will help. At the very least it can't hurt right.
I have been trying to work out how to have this surgery for about 5 years but had many many roadblocks previously. I'm finally at a place where I can be optimistic that this time it will work out and I am soooo grateful :)

I am 14 months post-op at this point, but, for me, my pre-op diet relly set me up for success. I was SMO, so BCBS waived the supervised diet. I only had 6 weeks from first visit to my surgeon until my surgery. I used those 6 weeks to shed as many pounds as possible, and adopted the diet that I would be following long term. I dropped about 46 lbs in those first 6 weeks, and I was very thankful to be well on my way before even having the surgery.
Everyone is different, and I imagine it's quite a slog going through 6 months or more of a supervised diet. But for me, those 6 weeks pre-op were super helpful, both for my weight loss as well as getting my head in the right place.

I am two months out from surgery now. I had to do the 6 months of jumping thru hoops for insurance. I had to see my primary care physician (PCP) every month 6 months in a row. I wasnt given any specific diet to follow. I did high protein low carb diet for those 6 months and lost 85 pounds from Sept 28th until March 13 surgery day. My calories were in the 900 - 1000 range every day. My surgery went very well and my transition to post surgery diet was very easy for me. I did have to do a special diet two weeks prior to surgery. 2 protein shakes plus one meal of 4 ouces meat with veggies, plus any clear liquids, and of course sugar free jello.

well, Doxie-mom, me and suigar free jello have become besties, for real! That is how i survive all cravings! I am encouraged to hear the transition when well. I too, have made complete diet 180 BEFORE SURGERY to train myself and to get well. Thanks for that info!
I went to the WLS information session in December 2015. I met with the team in January weighing in at 305. I had to have the 6 months of meetings with team and NUT for insurance purposes. I was not required to lose any weight, but through diet change and tracking, I was able to get down to 263 before my surgery on 8/23/16. So not a significant loss, but enough that I felt successful and went into the surgery feeling like I could do this. I'm now almost 9 months out and have lost almost 130 lbs total. I certainly agree with others that using the time before surgery to begin changing your eating habits helps tremendously! I've also learned so much by reading these forums and asking questions.
