Sorry, this wasn't helpful, but it just bugs me to no end. This surgery is not easy. It's just effective.

we all deal with people who don't understand why, when, how or anything else. I can't tell you how many people have told me of someone they know who gained it all back after Gastric Bypass. They don't know what RNY is, they think balloons and sleeves and everything else are the same. Truth is, I don't care.

I really don't care either. Just for some reason she is getting under my skin every time I have to ask for time off. It is a lot of time that I'm taking, but I have it so who cares what I'm using it for.

Just my thoughts:

1) your employer has NO right to know why you are on STD (only the provider). If you do not want comments/discussions- do not talk about it.

2) this is your personal health decision and no ones business. if you don't want comments, don't tell people. I kept my decision private and only told a few people. yes i got comments I didn't want to hear but you alone can allow comments or not.

I'm not going on STD I'm using my vacation time and personal time. The only reason I told her what was going on was because she keep asking me why I was taking so much time off. I would leave early here and take a day off here. Which I feel like that is none of her business either but I was put on the spot and I told her what was going on. It's my time I can use however I would like. At least that what I thought.

I told my boss but only a couple other people. I said "this is what I have to do for my health, so I don't get diabetes or die from a heart attack. This is a very personal decision and I've researched it extensively." I'm HR and my boss is HR, so I didn't experience the nasty comments you did. My mom, however, tried to talk me out of the surgery until the night before!

My mom is doing the same thing. She doesn't think that I have done all of my research for this, but I have. My health problems have come on a full force and I just don't want to be sick anymore. I'm 35 years old and the doctors are telling that all of the health problems that I am having are linked to the weight and this is what they suggest I do to get healthy again.
