My advice would be don't. I have a lot of ink, so I'm not anti it, obviously. My personal experience is that your surgery becomes less and less important over the years.

At this stage I never discuss it or refer to it outside of OH, it just doesn't define me and I couldn't imagine having a permanent reminder of it lol. I also had my tonsils removed in 1968, but have no desire to commemorate that either !!!

I agree. I always REALLY thought I wanted something, WLS related, etc, but didn't want something "normal"...like a butterfly...

Guess I didn't REALLY want one, because I STILL don't have it !!!

Kim's advice I think is great. My tattoo of my elephant is more that I love elephants and tattoos.

I almost got a tattoo to mark my one year sobriety date. I am so glad I didn't. I really didn't want anymore labels on me.

I'd probably save that money and put it towards some new clothes.

I elephants. I have always. I didn't want to put a date on me since I really don't want to explain why.

I actually won this from a radio show in Philly. I had to have the djs initials on it but I love it. I got the elephant as a reminder that I had WLS. Sine elephants do not forget.

I think got the two smaller ones to represent my kids.

I love my tattoos. Just make sure you really want it. I have a couple I would like to have a cover up. Not they are bad. But I wished I thought about them before I had them put on my body.

Also I want to add is with rapid weight loss our skin changes. I would really give it sometime before you put something and the skin will sag.

You do you! If yo like Ink, go for it.

But, I'd avoid writing or script of any sort. It does not fare well with the passage of time and the changes the body undergoes with WLS.

If you do decide to get something, make it personal and meaningful to you. I got one afterward and it was symbolic- no one would know what it is a tribute to. It's also something that I actually like. So, I felt at the time that if some stranger asks, I don't have to make up a story about it.

In hindsight I find people don't ask very often though. If they do, the generally ask, does it mean something- to which I say, yes. it's very personal to me.

Best,

Lisa C
