Support and advice appreciated
I had my surgery this Tuesday (Lapband revision to RNY). The procedure went well, although the surgeon said it was difficult at times because I had a lot of adhesions (most likely from my 2 csections). The first night was the typical awful gas pain, especially in my back. The second day was just a ton of soreness in the abdominal area. So I spent two nights in the hospital to make sure the pain was under control. Totally fine with me. All day yesterday I was drinking water and premier protein shakes and walking the hallways a lot. So except for elevated pain I was in a great place.
Got home this afternoon and uh oh!!! I have now thrown up twice and sorry for TMI but when I threw up, it looked like bloody pieces of tissue or maybe just phlegm. I tried to take the anti-acid pill the prescribed and I don't know if it was just too big or sticky but I think it got caught. Also I tried blending a new shake and maybe there was just too much air in the shake?
Anyway, I'd love to hear from others who have had vomiting post-surgery and hopefully didn't cause any lasting damage. I called my doctors office and he told me to go back to jus****er and don't worry about taking any of the other meds except the pain meds. Hopefully it will quiet down by tomorrow.
I'd follow his advice for sure. I think a possible issue with revision is that patients have some experience under their belt so it's like "been there, done that" and they can take things a bit too quickly. Meanwhile us bariatric virgins are too scared to do anything at first!
I try to apply the K.I.S.S. principle when it comes to eating and trying new foods. If you're not familiar with it it stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Meanwhile just monitor your temperature.
I had two episodes of vomiting while I was still in the hospital, the night of surgery and again the following day. (I had issues with the anesthesia, ugh)
I didn't do any permanent damage, and went home a few days later with no problems.
My surgeon's protocol is for lifetime, if I vomit, liquid only for 24 hours to let the swelling go down in the pouch.
I hope you feel better!

We are surgery day twins! I'm experiencing a lot of nausea too, though not throwing up. No fun. I wonder if that's normal...
Are you allowed to be drinking protein shakes already? For my first week it's clear liquids only. I think I would vomit too if I was drinking shakes. I can barely handle water. I know every plan is different, so do what ever your surgeon said.
Hope you feel better. I can't wait till we both start feeling better again.
Congrats on your revision, hope you heal up quickly! I threw up within an hour of waking from surgery and every single time I stood up (figured out months later I probably don't react too well to either the pain meds or the anasthesia). So, yep, many times in the hospital and for two more days at home since I kept taking the pain meds for a day after getting out (was in the hospital just one night); vast improvement once it was out of my system.
While it was very scary for me, and a little frustrating since the dr wouldn't prescribe anti-nausea for me, there was no damage done. I was reassured by the swallow test I had to have before being released that everything still looked good.
Four years out and still very very very happy about my rny.
