What's on your Wednesday Menu, RNYers?
Hi All,
I'm not used to planning our my daily menu, but it seems like it helps to stay on track so I'm giving it a go. Feel free to let me know if I'm doing/eating something that would be less than productive as I can always use the help staying on track.
QOTD: I work in auto insurance claims so mentally its about an unhealthy as it gets. Pretty much I get to take one of the worst days of your life and then add a bunch of red tape . It is a pretty large office though so its rare that there is unhealthy food that lasts long enough for me to not be able to resist it. When the company does cater though, they tend to get things that can be customized to whomever so lots of fajitas or breakfasts that have pancakes and cakes but also eggs, fruit, etc.
I'm still pre-op so my menu is a learning process. Trying really hard to keep my protein up and carbs low.
Breakfast: Premier Protein shake and carbmaster banana crème pie yogurt
Lunch: Salami and Cheddar, carrots, snap peas, tomatoes, and light ranch
Dinner: ??? We are supposed to be meeting up with my aunt so it will depend on where she wants to go
Snack: Dukes sausage sticks and maybe more veggies if I get too hungry

Welcome! That looks like a pretty awesome pre-op menu :) I find that planning a menu and sticking to it is really essential to me for staying honest. I could sneak in lots of little bites without being too careful. A single slice of cheese is 70 calories, and post-op, when your total calories for the day as only 600, one innocent seeming extra slice of cheese can really derail you! So best to get the habit of meal planning and calories counting, now. I hope you continue to join us here!
Thanks. I have enjoyed reading everyone's responses to these menu threads so I figured it was time to jump right in :)
Currently my nut has me on a 2000 a day calorie intake with a focus on protein. The thought of dropping down to 600 makes me slightly nauseous LOL but I'm sure it won't be as hard irl as it is in my mind. Right???

Nope, that is what the surgery is all about... making it easier to make a huge shift and drop the calories way down. I could not believe that there were days when I struggled to eat 600 calories (oh I miss those days). You'll do great :)
This is the thought that makes it easier to move forward. For real I think wrapping my head around the changes that are to come has been the hardest part.
At one point I thought to myself that I might literally starve to death. It would take an hour just to drink an 11 ounce protein shake. Eating was work!
Im only about 7 weeks out from surgery and now I can eat a lot more. Meat is a bit difficult. But I still don't get very hungry or at least nothing like before.
Welcome to the boards! As JB said, I also find that planning all of my meals out is imperative for me to stay successful. You will see from time to time that I'm not sure what I may be eating for a particular meal but whatever I do end up eating it's protein and that's most important. In addition weighing and measuring is essential as well.
Good luck with your journey and keep us posted.
