Has anyone tried weight loss medication after RNY?

Had my surgery in 2003, I am starting weight loss meds because I gained most of my weight back.

Any advice or tips from people who have taken weight loss meds would be great.

Thanks

I have not but I recently spoke at a roundtable on obesity at the National Academies of Science in DC and from listening to the bariatric program directors there, multi-disciplinary obesity treatment seems to be the way things are going. Doctors cited example after example of regain after WLS where they were able to implement a combination of behavior modification and medications that brought folks back within a normal BMI range.

I hope this information gets shared with practitioners and post-ops alike so that we can get rid of the idea that surgery is supposed to be "the end of the line." Just like with my recent (and, thankfully, brief) experience with breast cancer, my mastectomy may have been just ONE of various needed treatments, with obesity, surgery may require accompanying treatments as well.

Not sure if that's helpful but I wanted you to know that it's something doctors are doing, thinking about, putting into practice more and that, from many doctors perspectives, there's nothing "wrong" with a patient *****quires medication. They just are a person who needs an additional intervention to get their disease of obesity under control.

I have not, but I have friends who have had success with Contrave (which was prescribed by their bariatric surgeon).

Those are some serious side effects. It was interesting to read about.
