Conazza-I just saw that you are a patient of Dr. Pohl. Me too! He's been my doc for about 9 years. Rhode is a small place so that's quite a coincidence. Do you go to the support groups at RWH?

Hi! It's a small world and an even smaller state. I have gone a couple times in the beginning but I haven't been there for quite awhile. Do you go? He was my surgeon in 2006 when I had my lap band. I had that monstrosity for over 10 years. You'll absolutely love not having it and Dieter Pohl is the best doc. Just don't listen to the cream of wheat advice!!! Please PM me with questions.

Good morning folks!Today is 9 weeks since surgery and I finally feel stronger. It has been improving, but my energy seemed to take longer to return than I had hoped. But things are good.

It's another warm day here in MD but it's not supposed to be quite as hot thankfully. That means that I am off for a long walk later this morning.

Yesterday I took a long walk on a route that is slightly new. I keep trying to find new routes so that I don't get too bored with my walking.

Also I was teleworking and decided to go to the gym for my lunch break. I had planned to ride the bikes for a while and then hit the weight room for a bit. I did 30 minutes on the bike and then went to the weight room only to find that it felt entirely too intimidating. It was all machines and I had no idea what to do. There were also a group of older men standing around bragging and I decided that I would put off the weight room for a while longer. I like the cardio, but not the resistance stuff as much.

QOTD: I've kept tempting foods pretty much at arms length, but I didn't have any rice with my Chinese stirfry this past weekend and that was hard.

Breakfast: hard boiled egg, turkey sausage

Snack: Ice Tea protein shake

Lunch: TJ's Balsamic chicken

Snack: cottage cheese with unsweetened applesauce

Dinner: leftover BBQ chicken breast

Exercise: long walk this morning, deep water aerobics this evening

I had been wanting to try resistance training since far before WLS and felt the same way. I got a personal trainer in a studio instead of a gym and it's awesome to learn without all the eyes on you.

Most people in weight rooms are just standing around. Weights don't work as well that way. So don't let it intimidate you.

Have someone show you how to use the machines, if that's what you want. And just go and use them. Really, no one is paying attention to what other people are doing. And if you become a regular, they'll admire you for your committment.

Fake it till you make it... the machines at our gym have little pictures on them, and I just looked at them and figured it out...

I did take the introduction class, and the guy walked me around and I did all of them with him, but I didn't remember all of it anyway...

Put on headphones so you can listen to music and not pay attention to the old dudes in the corner... you probably don't want to hear what they're discussing anyway!

Grim, can I borrow-hire you to show me what to do? It is getting over the hump to knowing how to use the equipment safely that scares me.
