Morning all! Sorry about the job shake up JB, dontcha love new earth moving management? :/
Our area is recovering from all this rain and flooding. So many stories of deaths from this. And what's so upsetting is that most of these are preventable. People trying to cross bridges that got washed away. A young woman deciding it would be fun to go rafting on a flooded creek. A kid who jumped their backyard fence to go play in a flooded creek. Etc, etc.
QOTD- that is such a hard one. I like ALL THE FOODS. Lol! But if I have to pick, it would be Italian. Love all the Italian. My mom did one of those ancestry DNA things. We were very interested because her father was adopted, so we had a wild card. Her mothers side we knew was Irish and Scottish. Anyway, it comes back 70% Scottish. And 7% Italian, 7% Greek. We cracked up over that. We are the palest, most freckled people. And now we boast of our Greek and Italian-ness, lol.
meals today- prep is done, I have food for days! I am 8months post op.
Breakfast- Denver omelet
Lunch- BLT on Lo carb wrap
Snack- deli meat/cheese/veg rollup
Dinner- beef stew (no taters!)
Snack- cherry limeade (sugar free!)

it'd be fun to try to figure out your grandfather's lineage - if you have 2nd and 3rd cousins listed, you may be able to piece together who his parents, etc were! I'm on a couple of Facebook groups that find birth parents/birth children, and lots of people are able to do this through the DNA tests. It's pretty cool!
My obsession is using DNA to figure out ancestry. I personally have tested on all of the major sites. I would like to figure out my father but no luck there. I have however helped an adoptee find both of her birth parents using her DNA. So much fun!

Good morning JB and gang. I'm starting this week with a pledge to you all! I'm going to really push to lose 10lbs before August 4th. That gives me 3 months, and for someone who had RNY less than 2 years ago, is a totally doable goal, especially since I've been down to that weight before, and these 10 pounds will be just regain lost.
How scary about your job JB, but you were just recently wondering about changing jobs to lessen your commute. Maybe this is fate? I'll say a prayer and hope that things work out best for you. I've met Cheapskate, last year when she was in town. She and her husband are awesome, and my hubby and I went and had lunch with them while they were in town.
My weekend was busy, but mellow. I didn't have a lot of official plans, other than my little starting soccer. OMG, for those of you whoe are my friends on facebook, did you get a chance to see my kiddo play on the videos I posted? He is the smallest kid on the team, which ranges from ages 3 to 5 years old, but he totally held his own and was awesome! I'm so proud. My FIL is already starting in with the hyperbole about how great of an athlete he's going to be. He's been like this for years. My husbands oldest nephew is 19 and playing college football. He is a good athlete, but small, so not really suited to go pro. BUT, if you listen to my FIL, Jacob is the best athlete of all time, and has been throughout his school years and playing peewee football. My husband and I have no big dreams of my Kal going pro, or even playing college ball, but my FIL will have it all mapped out by the time he's 5, lol.
Saturday I lost my cellphone. I searched all day yesterday and couldn't find it. Late yesterday afternoon I took Bugsy out for a walk down the path in the woods behind my house. And there it was, laying in the center of the path, soaking wet since it rained all afternoon. I put it in a bowl of dry white rice and it sat overnight. I tried to plug it in to charge this morning, but it didn't even acknowledge the charger. I put it back in the rice, I'm still hopeful. It's cracked and beat up, but it's a Samsung Galaxy S6, and I'm still paying for it through Verizon, and it won't be paid off until August. So, I won't be able to get a new phone until it's paid off. My mom had given me a 2 year old Samsung Galaxy Core when she upgraded recently, because my oldest had lost his phone and we weren't going to upgrade it. So, last night before bed, I charged that phone and downloaded the Audible app. I then downloaded my audio book via WiFi, so I would be able to listen to it today while I'm working. If my phone isn't working by this weekend, I'm just going to have to go and have them switch my number to this Galaxy Core phone, so I can actually have a working phone.

JBQOTD: Greek food is my favorite. I love the fresh, light flavors. Yummy!
Minute rice works better than regular rice. But the best thing is high absorbency cat litter. I would put it in a plastic baggie and completely fill with cat litter. Then gently lay something heavy like a brick on top of the baggie. The extra pressure can help squeeze the water out. I have rescued several phones this way.

Kal was adorable playing soccer :) Yikes about the phone. I cannot even imagine the terror I would feel not to have it. I am so dependent that it is scary. I hope the rice/kitty litter, etc. work! I have also heard that those little silicone gel packets that come in clothes and other goods are helpful.
Silica gel works great, but probably has absorbed all the water they are capable of absorbing. But they are reusable. Dry them out in a 100 degree oven for a couple of hours, and they are good to go.
You can get metal canisters of silica gel on Amazon, and reuse them forever. They are great for tool chests.
