When I visit Egypt, the caretaker of the AirBnB I stay at makes up falafel patties and serves them with the rest of the spread he makes for my breakfast. He also brings pitas warm from the ovens. A warm pita wrapped around sizzling hot falafel, plus some of the amazing fresh veggies like green onions, tomato, cucumber... and a couple spoon fulls of fresh yogurt. The best breakfast EVER!!! (also beans because, ya know, the English were there...)

Sorry to hear about the job situation. I'd go for the director opportunity, in my experience, you never know what will happen until you throw your hat in the ring. Paris sounds pretty exciting. I've never been anywhere really, just a couple trips within Canada for vacation and back when I was a long-haul truck driver, I was all over North America. Seeing things through the windshield and meeting all sorts of cool people (and getting to know back-road America) was pretty cool. I could point you in the direction of some pretty amazing diners off the beaten path, but then.....we RNYers couldn't eat anything. The owners are awesome though, and the coffee's hot.

QOTD: Indian food has been something of a recent favourite thanks to my wife, as well as sushi. However, I've always been a nacho guy and authentic Mexican is probably tops.

Here's my menu for now (have fun, haha)

B: 1 protein shake, 25p/2c, 110 cal

MS: I was driving to the surgeon's office, didn't get to it. But I did drink a decaf coffee and 1/2l water in the car, and had the same thing on the way home.

L: same protein shake as above

AS: 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, LF with 9 blueberries in it.

S: 1/2 cup of some sort of crock pot soup my wife made (who is sensitive to my dietary needs). Looks good. Pretty sure there's an entire chicken in it.

ES: If I get to it, a bit of FF greek yogurt with 9 blueberries.

Cheers

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.

OH JB! I'm so sorry about the crap at work. Here is my hint for nighttime anxiety - I divide two or three digit numbers by two (or three) digit numbers, long division style. I don't know if it's due to the horrific tedium of the task, or if it just pulls so much processing energy from my brain's cpu - but pretty soon I'm asleep!

I did really well last week, most days my total calories were between 500 and 700 with an average of 575. I really upped my exercise and even jogged a little (I've never been a runner and I haven't jogged in years). When I got back to my apt Friday night it was almost midnight but I weighed myself and I am still at 189. I was crushed :( I thought a whole five days away from the scale would somehow magically translate into a nice drop on the scale. I left the scale at my apt again this week, so my next weigh in will be Friday.

I'm having a Monday too. I drove from my apt in Akron, down to Columbus (Ohio) last night as I'm starting this new job down here but still going "home" on weekends. I arrived at my parents at 9:30, went to bed at 11, and my eyes popped open at midnight with the realization that my work laptop was back in Akron. I set my alarm for 4 am, got up, dressed for work, then drove two hours each way to fetch the laptop. I couldn't even get mad over it, since it was totally self inflicted and plus, why get mad? But this did prevent me from packing anything today.

QOTD- Indian for sure! But I love almost all ethnic food. I'm an adventurous eater and I'll try almost anything that is regularly eaten within a culture. That's part of my problem!!! I love all calories! I can tell you that meal worms DO taste kinda nutty, and carpenter ants taste like lime. (I know, it's hard to believe I had friends as a kid, let alone as an adult!)

I know you are early out, and eating can be challenging at times at that stage....but I would scale back on bread and banana type carbs if you are not meeting your protein goals. You only have so much room in your pouch. Protein first... I am not saying you can't ever have a small carb while losing....but your protein numbers have to be a priority, especially in the beginning. You are not absorbing all of it(the nature of RNY and malabsorption) - you need it for healing from the surgery, and you want to minimize muscle loss. You want to be losing fat, not muscle.
