I tend to agree! And it's not just posted once. It's a reply on a ton of posts.

Thank you. My intention now is not to scare anyone only to inform.

I am sorry you are dealing with so many issues. RNY may have contributed to that conditions you have. But... You also could have developed? those issues without RNY.

I deal with some long term issues since I had RNY. Did the RNY caused it? Or contributed to it? I'll never know. It is what it is.

A close friend of mine, around 33-35.. has more issues than I do. And she never had any WLS. It is what it is.

Some nutritional deficiency could have contributed to some if not most of the issues. There is no doubt in my mind.

I think some of us become MO because there is something wrong with our system. Maybe we needed to be fat to protect our insides? Maybe we needed a lot of food so we can get enough nutrition? Once we no longer can eat a lot - or body starts breaking down...

I know my hormones got all messed up when I lost all my excess weight, and my cholesterol dropped to a very low level. Everything was shutting down. I went into instant menopause, my adrenals, thyroid, HGH, etc... Everything was low or borderline low...

9 years post op I deal with most of that. I am on hormones, deal with IBS, SIBO, pain after eating. Etc. Etc..etc..

But.. Did the RNY caused it? Or the issues were in me....???? What was first? Chicken and egg...I'll never know.

For now I deal with what it is. I don't blame WLS, I know there were things wrong with me before... That's why I needed WLS to lose weight. My body was not ok. If it were working right, I would not need RNY.

I often tell people- be prepared for the worst, expect the best. Use WLS as a last resort.

If I knew then what I know now, would? have RNY? No. I would not. I would've consider VSG. Or nothing.

Edited to add:

when I wrote:" I know there were things wrong with me before RNY" I meant the fact that I was fat most of my life. That I would lose weight by diet and exercise only to gain it back.

A normal healty person does not get to be Morbidly Obese when they are really healthy. Too be MO as a child means there are underlying hormonal issues, or metabolic issues, or something else. I believe and I hope that in the future someone will discover what is really wrong with us, and instead of cutting out stomach, and mutilating our insides - they would fix what is wrong with us.

I'm sorry to hear of your suffering as well. It is my firm belief that my conditions are a direct result of the bypass due to the fact that I had none of them prior to the surgery. If I knew then what I know now I would've stayed fat. Though overweight, I was healthier, happier, and fertile. I hope you get better!

I am better. I have a team of docs who are helping me. I know what I need to do. And I do it. I try to stay ahead of the issues.

I wish you best. I hope you can find a good team that can help you.
