Oh wow. So sorry. I had no idea that surgery was the recommendation for that...

Apparently the only cure for hyperparathyroidism is surgical removal of the growth(s) on the parathyroid. If it turns out there is a growth, it may explain a lot, like why I still have acid reflux, why I'm exhausted all the time, my heart palpitations (other than when I'm dumping), etc. It's one of those things that I can't decide if I hope they find something or not. On the one hand, you never want to have a tumor even though they're almost always non-cancerous. On the other hand, it's been so long since I've felt good, that finally finding an answer that will make me feel better overnight, is very attractive.

I had to have one of my parathyroid glands removed because it was leeching calcium from my bones, as well. I kept breaking bones and they finally figured out that was why. Since having my parathyroid gland removed ... no more broken bones!

Achilles tendon - good news - unless you ripped it all the way (probably not ) - it will heal by itself.

Bad news - tendons often have very limited blood supply so it can take forever to heal properly.

good shoes, a brace, ace and heat (20 min on and off x 3 times) finished with ice...

and last but not least- my personal experience - acupuncture... find a good one and go as often as your funds allow. I tore my ankle and within 3 months I was walking normally and in 6 months i had a total recovery...

I got convinced about that thing working - when 14 years ago in 6 months we were able to fix my rotator caff- that steroids, pain pills and physical therapy did not help much. (FYI - the doc wanted to do surgery to fix it)

Thanks this is super helpful! I also have some tearing tendons that connect my thumbs to my wrist (I am a super delicate flower), so I am going to use this advice on my whole body. Haha.

SF jello or hydrolyzed gelatin should be your best friend... Just drink it...really...

I agree 100% with Hala. I pulled my Achilles at the gym before my regain and it took a long time heal. Heat, ice and consume gelatin. Definitely see a doctor to make sure though.

I can relate to foot issues - I hope it heals quickly!! Just try to stay off it as much as possible for awhile... I have to go back to the doctor today for this numbness (due to a fractured ankle) that will just NOT go away! (it's been two months now...)

22 months out (maintenance)

B: homemade Greek yogurt, flaxseed, raspberries

S: "Orange Julius" protein shake, coffee with half & half

L: had a lot of stuff to do this morning, and I'm on my way to the doctor's office in a few, so I may just have a protein bar since I have no idea how long I'll be there...

D: carnitas (again!!)

probably another yogurt in there somewhere...
