This is one of the things I love about the running community - no one is competing with ME, everyone is just competing with themselves :)

Making it me time made it easier. Making it all about me. I know that sounds selfish. But when you are happy so is everyone else.

Thanks everyone! Lots to ponder and think about. I've loved swimming in the past but the coldness is really getting to me so I think while I continue that I may try any and all other classes that interest me in hopes of finding something I enjoy now. My husband is a runner and has done and trained for many marathons and has even done a couple of ultra marathons of 100K. I have arthritis in my knees and feet so I haven't done much walking in the past but something about it does appeal to me now that I can get around so much easier. I like the idea from Grim to just think about being more active as well. Anyway, I appreciate all of your help.

If you're having trouble with the temperature, have you thought about wearing a rashguard over your swimsuit? It's basically a shirt made out of swimsuit fabric, they come in short- and long-sleeve versions.

They were originally designed for surfers, so they don't get the oceanic equivalent of road-rash when they wipe out. My son and I wear them at the pool because they have SPF 50 and keep us from burning. But I bet they would also help to keep you warm in the pool!

I wear one when I swim because it's so windy and cold here when I go. Plus it protects my skin from the sun. I feel naked without one now, lol.

I am a swimmer...it is my passion. I love the water.....and yet sometimes it just takes all my 'mind' engery to get myself in gear. Look at the water as a mental break too-sometimes I do not even join a class or swim laps, just putput back and forth, singing to myself, praying, planning my day-ME TIME. And while it is not an intense workout, it is still a workout. The more you do this, the more your body will allow your brain to let you go to the pool. Good Luck...if you need any aqua support, feel free to hit me up!

Have a Blessed Day....

Honestly I used to love going to the pool. I don't know what changed after surgery. Funny thing is, the fact that I'd found an activity I loved gave me that final push toward surgery because I felt I'd be happy to continue after but it just hasn't worked that way. Maybe it would do me good to go to the pool when there isn't a class and see how that feels. Thanks for the input.

Once again I agree with grim. I don't exercise or diet. I love to ride my bike . That isn't a chore it's something I love. I went to the gym for 6 months and hated it. Find something you like to do. Walking is great activity also.
