What's on your Monday Menu, RNYers?

Happy Monday! Was a super busy weekend and I am busy today at work getting ready to be out for my surgery starting Wednesday.

QOTD: I had been wanting it for more than a decade but could never afford it. Finally about 6 years ago I decided to find a way to afford it but my Guy was dead set against it. He was so worried about the risks that he was having none of it. A couple years ago friends of ours both had it done and after my Guy saw their success and how happy and healthy they were he decided to let me pursue RNY. I've been grateful everyday since!

Menu: B: Greek yogurt with granola and blueberries; L: Beef cabbage soup left overs; D: Soup again; S: Banana; ES: No sugar added ice cream. (Trying to go squishy to give my guts a bit of a rest before the surgery. Thank you H.A.L.A!)

Accountability: Weight this morning 127 and no smoking ...all is good.

Consultation weight: 265, Surgery date: 10/6/15, Goal: 150, Current weight: 129; 5'5, 46 years old

One of my best friends- 30 year dieting buddies...wanted to have surgery the same time I did...but her insurance wouldn't cover it.

When she and her husband saw the success I was having- they decided it was worth paying out of pocket for.... She is a year out from her VSG and doing great.

So sorry to hear about your ulcer! Hope it heals quickly. I guess I had better get rid of the morning coffee. Still on the pre-op diet - doing well. 1 week to go until the big day!

I learned of WLS (other than the throw up band my husband has) when I was notarizing a document for a woman and I asked for ID. She showed me her drivers license and I said "Looks like you" she said "Oh yeah, that was me 175 lbs. ago". She looked great so I asked her how she did it and she told me all about it and gave me her doctors name. I went to a seminar at the end of November and decided to look into it more. Then I got put in the hospital for a week with acute bronchitis so that set me back a little but first of the year I was back on it. Endoscophy showed my surgeon that because of my severe GERD problem that I was not a candidate for the sleeve so he suggested gastric bypass. At first I was skeptical, but after discussing it further with the PA and doing reasearch on my own (this website was extremely helpful!) I forked out the extra money and am going for it. Thanks for all of of your informative posts!

They will probably make you give up caffeine a for a few months post op. My doc had me give it up before, because she told me that it was better not to add caffeine withdrawal to all the other post op pain...

One week away! SO excited for you!

Thanks JB! You and Grim have been so helpful with your advice! I can understand why they wouldn't want to add caffeine withdrawal to the rest of the recovery issues. I will take your advice and switch to decaf. One week to go and I feel great which is strange since I haven't had any solid food for a week! Coworkers (are all younger than me and eat all the junk they want and never gain an ounce!) had pizza for lunch yesterday and I didn't even want any! I think I was more scared of not being able to do this than I am the surgery. Roxanne

Sounds totally normal that that is where your focus is ((and healthy too))! After you have the surgery, you are in this for the LONG HAUL, and IMO it is way better to be focused on what happens after the surgery!

Yes! For sure! I have a lot of motivation including 5 beautiful grandchildren that I want to do so much more with than I am able to now in the shape I have let myself get to. I am 61 years old and still have many, many things on my bucket list so the motivation is there. Thanks again for your earnest and helpful input. Greatly appreciated!

Morning gang!

QOTD: My PCP suggested it a few times. I looked into it, as most seemed to do, about 5 years before I finally went through with it. I was determined to lose without surgery, but we all know how that turned out.

Good morning JB and crew!

QOTD: I was a complete WLS snob. I remember when Al Roker had it thinking what a joke. Only lazy people with money have that. Lol. October 2015 after I was turned down for a knee replacement gecause my BMI was 44, orthopedic surgeon said he would not consider surgery unless I was significantly under 40 bmi. So my doctor suggested WLS. I was shocked... but it became clear that I was in a downward spiral. So I said yes. Wish I had gone down that road long ago. I feel so good these days.

B: coffee with cream, miralax, Dannon L&F greek yogurt

L: blt with no bread, beef jerky

D: not sure, we are going out. Mayne steak salad

S: Syntrax fuzzy navel, diet cran something with water

Totals: 867 calories 88 protein 39 carbs 38 fat

Back to work! I have been putting fire pits together... 21 out of 60 done. Next up: 65 picnic tables. Yikes. Have a great day everyone!

I was never ever thought I would have this surgery..... Never thought I'd have plastic surgery either... So starts an increasing long list of things I never thought I'd do or would happen in my life...
