How is Dad?

still the same. Hospice told us yesterday anywhere from a few hours to two days. My brother said he looked like he was going to "go" early yesterday afternoon, but then he rallied. He's just sleeping a lot. His eyes are partially open sometimes, but my brother isn't sure how aware he is. His eyes really aren't responsive to stimuli. When I talked to my brother yesterday on the phone, I could hear that awful breathing that's common in dying people (sort of a series of shallow gasps - then a long pause - then more shallow gasps), but my brother said shortly after that he went back to more-or-less normal breathing.

so anyway, I'm basically sitting around waiting for updates and that dreaded phone call. This is awful - I'm not sure what to do with myself other than sit around and wait. I came into work today, but I cleared my schedule as much as possible this week in case I need to be in and out (or just plain out). I have no idea how I'll react to this. I've only been through pet deaths or more distant relative deaths (grandparents and aunts/uncles - none of whom I ever saw very much since we never lived near extended family), so I'm not sure how I'm going to respond. Even with those, my responses varied quite a bit - I guess it depended on the cir****tances.

anyway, thanks for asking. It's nice to know people are thinking about me. This year has been really, really tough.
