I have type 1 diabetes and have become increasingly insulin resistant over the years which is the biggest reason why I am having surgery. I am curious about how it is post op with T1 diabetes? I use a pump now but was contemplating going back to the shots since my insulin needs will be so much smaller. I'm also concerned about dealing with low blood sugars with the small pouch and dumping.

I am currently in the 2 week pre-op diet and my blood sugar has actually been running high. I see the endocrinologist today but I wonder if others experienced this as well.

I am not Type 1 but still want to say that a pump would be easier than shots, because sometimes you will only need a tiny amount of insulin and it would be easier to pump than fill a syringe.

You can use glucose tablets for low blood sugar. I don't believe you will dump from them, but avoiding lows is better.

There is a new medical devise that is an artificial pancreas. A few people have them already and they were approved by the FDA last year. Ask you endocrinologist about the Medtronic.

Do everything you can to keep healthy with Type 1. There is new technology and each advancement promises a healthier life.

We have surgery the same day. Don't have diabetes (pre-diabetic) but the best of luck to you - hope your diabetes is cured or at least your condition improves.
