My anatomy prof gives us exam breakdowns so we know what to focus on when we study and one of them listed "fill in the blank sphincter." I just giggled every time I saw it. Since I'm 10 years old.

I try to stay away from it. I just know before my thinking was I can save the calories for food. Like have huge sundae and drink a diet soda.

I may drink one or two a week. It does bother my pouch at times. It makes me burp a lot. Not so lady like.

I prefer decaf coffee. I drink decaf since I have anxiety and it makes my heart race when there is caffeine in it.

I drink way too much Diet Soda/Pop/Whatever they call it in your neck of the woods... mostly because it's a tool to convey caffeine to my over-worked brain :)

On occasion the carbonation can make Pouchy uncomfortable, so I prefer sugar-free energy drinks that don't have carbonation (Rockstar Recovery, Monster Tea/Lemonade, etc)... but sometimes a good Diet Dew just can't be beat.

But yeah, the pouch stretch thing, it doesn't happen.

I drink a crap-ton of Diet Coke and have since I was nine months out. I've also had periods of considerable regain (40 pounds and then 50+ pounds) which I subsequently re-lost. Right now I am at my lowest weight since surgery and have been for over a year now. I am 8+ years out. And I drink two or three Diet Cokes a day.

As adults, we get to decide what to put into our bodies. Especially when we are a ways out. I hate the myth about carbonation. It never seems to go away and I think it's very irresponsible for WLS surgeons and centers to continue propagating (sp?) it. It's like the straw thing. Or the starvation myth. Or a set point. Or Flinstones vitamins or protein shots. Etc, etc etc.

I'm glad you asked the question. Other people were likely wondering as well and it's good to get correct info out. We have many lurkers and this stuff is important.
