Bariatric Rice Cooker Recipes?

good morning!

I moved to my own place yesterday and in the process I got a bunch of my kitchen stuff out of storage. I've found a bunch of stuff I forgot I had... including a rice cooker! I don't envision using this to cook rice at anytime in the foreseeable future, but I know sometimes there are other uses for these things. Any good low carb recipes I should hang onto this for? Or should I just donate it?

Good morning!

I have a rice cooker... I use it twice weekly to cook brown rice for my boys...

I gave up everything starches until I reach goal.

Rice will definitely be the one starch that I would reintroduce BUT in moderation...

I would hang onto it for sure... Not sure if you can cook quinoa in it.

Everything appliances are always useful as you progress through life...

Congratulations on the weight loss and the new move...

I think you can use it as a steamer/poacher for veggies, fish and chicken, and like a crock pot for slow cooked meats and stews and homemade yogurt. https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/food-recipes-new-use s-for-old-things/repurposing-rice-cooker

Depends on how fancy it is but the newer ones usually double as a slow cooker/ crockpot type device.

Ive cooked quinoa in mine many times. I use the same water ratio as I do for rice. Then I make a quinoa salad. Add tomato, basil, avocado etc with some good olive oil and a nice white balsamic.

Quinoa has around 21g of carbs per serving... for some perspective, that's half of my carb allowance for a day!

Stay far away from it and other grains, there are much better sources of protein out there with fewer carbs (whether made in a rice cooker or otherwise)... a quick google showed me a recipe for rice-cooker omelets, for example...

Put a steamer tray in the bottom and rice cookers are fabulous for steaming frozen veggies!
