This is true. My surgeon did tell me one coffee a day was ok. But the Ibuprofen is totally on me. I learned the hard way!

People needs to hear stories like that.

I cringe everytime I see "my doc told me Advil once in a while is on as long as I take nexium with it" . Maybe yes - maybe no. I know even couple of ibuprofen can cause irritation in my pouch that takes weeks to clear.

You are so right! I was told moderation with caffeine. I have since learned that because I had h. pylori in 2012 I am prone to ulcers and that means all things from the no no list should be a hard NO NEVER EVER for me.

Also - prolonged used of PPI will cause problem with the pouch and intestines lining, and even mild irritation can lead to ulcers. We need acid to create nice mucus lining of the stomach - pouch...And small intestine.

It is one on the "chicken and egg" issue..You need PPI to protect the lining, but PPI would cause thining of the lining...But stopping PPI may cause ulcers because the lining is so thin.

The more PPI you take the stronger and more often you need to take.

Also PPI can affect the bladder lining and the kidney. Yea us....!!! No?

Wow! Thanks for the info!!!! It's catch 22 :( .

Do H2 blockers like zantac lead to a thinning of tissue?

The may. the studies are still on it.. Zantac is histamine blocker.. .so it also causes less acid... less acid also impairs protein digestion...

and - zantac together with other meds can cause blurry vision or double visions.. did you know that?

That's good to know! It's my hope slowly transition to Zantac from Pronotix. I may not be successful but worth a try.

I take Zantac before bed, not for reflux; but, because it helps control my life-threatening food allergies. I started taking Prilosec in the morning.
