I just posted my first blog about a serious complication I recently experienced. I want to share just in case it helps anyone.

Holy Moly! I've been having pain under my right ribcage for about a month. Mentioned it to my surgeon and they said if it ever got worse to go to the ER. It did. I went to the ER with the worst pain I've ever had in my life. As they were checking me in, the pain instantly was gone (believing God healed whatever it was). It's been gone for a while; but, that naggy pain under my ribcage is back. I only drink coffee all day long. It's the only way I get my fluids. I'm going to call my surgeon as soon as they open.

Please do follow up! I am so sad to give up coffee- it is like losing part of my identity! But better than losing my life! I will be praying you find out for sure that it is nothing t be concerned about.
Just following back up. I started on Carafate and Prilosec on April 18. As of the other day all stomach pains and twangs are gone. I follow-up again this Friday. Thankfully I don't have any symptoms of an ulcer now. I've cut back on the coffee -- so sad -- and am trying to ge****er - I just really hate it. LOL

My surgeon has told me no coffee post-RNY and this definitely cements that I need to listen...as much as I will miss it. Thanks for sharing your very scary experience, I hope your recovery goes well!

Yeah...I believe even decaf is off the table which makes me sad...ugh. I'm scheduled for my RNY in June...until then I will lovingly enjoy my coffee as I prepare to say farewell to it

Yes, it is so hard to give it up! I think de-caf is ok, but Im in the "whats the point" boat on that one.
Decaf still have the acid. I know. Unfortunately.
I am sure I need to give up my coffee. Eventually. But for now - I had to give up so many foods that I am no ready to do that.
I switched to cold brew coffee and I use calcium carbonate (powder) to further reduce the acidity of the coffee.
My doc and I can't figure out what is causing my GERD. It is most likely food allergies, or allergies to something in my meds.
It get GERD if I drink coffee or not.
