Tomorrow is my Dr. appt to discuss RNY
When you prep for surgery it is very seriously looked upon for good reason. It is to shrink the liver so that it is a safer surgery. I also had to lose 10% of my weight. If you decide on RNY you will learn a lot from your surgeon and you will be "super good" at whatever he instructs you to do or medically pay the consequences. With my surgeon those that didn't succeed with his instructions, were not operated on. I also had revision from lap band but also had to shrink the liver before that surgery as well. Again, they would not do surgery on those that didn't take it seriously enough. I wish you luck, this is a very exciting time.

During the surgery they need to keep your liver "propped up"for an extended period. The less weight on that retractor the less chance of damage. The 2 week pre-op diet is designed to shrink the liver.
So for my surgery I am drinking 4 packages of SlimTime daily for 3 weeks to shrink my liver. I am allowed jello, diet pop and broth. Each serving has to be under 10 calories. It's mentally frustrating as I'm only on day 2 and its Easter but once ketosis kicks in it will be better. If you don't comply surgery gets cancelled.
HI ALL!!! I was approved. I am soo excited. The surgeon said that I will really benefit from the RNY. During the group discussion about different types of WLS I noticed that LAP BAND wasn't even discussed. Later I met with the surgeon one on one... he went over my history, and agreed with my choice of RNY. I also asked him why he didn't discuss Lap Bands... he said that he won't do Lap Bands, not good statistics and results with the lap band. I told the surgeon how miserable I a with the lap band, he said... all those problems will be gone. Hallelujah!! I cannot wait for the surgery.
