I had my Roux en y surgery on the 24th of March, and I am having a rough time. I'm not able to keep protein drinks down, and I am not able to eat enough to get the protein I need. I was told that I needed 60-80g of protein/day, but I am probably not getting more than 10g. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do? I have tried several different brands of the milk-based protein drinks. I have also tried Isopure, and it is the most horrendous thing that I've ever tasted in my life. Has anyone found anything where the protein taste isn't so bad in the non-milk-based protein drinks? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

What foods are you eating? You're early out are you on pureed? You can puree any dense protein, chicken, beef. What about ricotta bake? Beans? It sounds like you're trying to use only supplements, are you getting any protein from food? Greek or skyr yogurt?

What about adding unflavoured protein powder to broth, apple sauce, cream of wheat?

I hate giving you an answer like this but have you called your surgeon? Talk to them, follow up with them and see what they say. My surgeon's office adjusted my foods and intake so many times from my calls but it worked. Please keep us posted on how you are doing

There is one company that sells protein powder that does not taste and smell like sour milk.

BSN Lean Dessert and BSN Syntha 6 come in a red jar. Open the jar and smell the mix. It smells like cake mix. They are the only brand I actually liked.

Hi!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time! I really liked Bone Broth- one cup has 10g protein. Also, I prefer the Nectar brand protein powder mixed with water- my favorites are Fuzzy Navel and Pink Grapefruit. They taste a little tart and aren't creamy tasting which may help.

Also, what about the unflavored protein powder with Crystal Light or Sobe Lean?

Good luck, I hope you find something that sits well with you. I felt very tired and very wea****il I started getting in 60g of protein.

Second Syntrax fuzzy navel. Mixes with water and tastes like juice but has 23 grams orotein for a scoop. Also Unjury makes a chicken protein powder that is good, 20 grams protein for a scoop. You need a lot more than 10 grams of protein a day. I also eat a lot of greek yogurt. 12-15 grams for a half cup. Good luck.

I was wondering if you are trying to drink or eat too much at a time. Try 1-2 ounces about every 15 minutes. I still have days where I can't eat a whole egg. I stop eating. Other days, I eat 2 eggs and 1/2 piece of toast (I'm in maintenance) I don't worry about it at this time in my journey. I think about how my grandkids eat. They are 2 and 5 years old. Sometimes they don't eat anything. Other days, they are little piggies :) Our stomachs are the size of a toddler's.

You should be getting some protein in now. At first it was important to get your water, but now you need water and protein. If you are still having problems, I would call the doctor.

try a homemade protein shake I can't eat powders. I use 1 cup Shoprite low fat yogurt 22-23 grams of protein I think it has 130 calories. I put in some vanilla. 1/2 cup water. Lots of ice. In blender. Frozen strawberries, frozen bananas. Agave.Stevia. Some coconut. Some oatmeal. And it's great. You also can ask your nutritionist. Good luck u must be so excited.

I too really struggled with protein drinks. I would feel so nauseous from them. I'm not sure, but at least initially, I think I had some slight dairy intolerance issues, so any protein drinks that mixed with milk bothered me - however, I was able to eat yogurt and cottage cheese, so did use those to help with protein intake.

I was able to tolerate Isopure - some flavors better than others. I used that for several months. I also found a brand called ProBalance that I could purchase either at Target or on Amazon.

Also, I did go on the Nashua Nutrition site and order the sample sizes of different protein drinks. The syntax did not work for me, but found the chike brand of protein coffee that works for me (mixed with water). I have it every morning (coffee and protein!!).

Keep trying different options.

Good luck!
