Lap Band to RNY.. I'm wanting a revision
As far as I know the recovery is definitely tougher. I'm not far enough along to say I love it but I'm loving the weight that's melting off daily.

My recovery was easier! I had the band removed RNY done and a hernia repaired and I still felt better than the first surgery when the band was put in. However, I took the max (one month) off so that I could be fully recovered and really get my new routines down before heading back to the chaos that is work... Physically I could have gone back at 2 weeks, but I am glad I took the time to get my head in the game.
I say this to everyone who will listen--the RNY is nothing like the band. When I was banded, I choked on water, too, and had terrible acid. All of that is just gone! I feel a normal full sensation and now there are very few foods that are on my "can't tolerate" list. I lost all of my weight in 9 months and have been maintaining at my goal weight for 11 months.
I hope you continue to investigate the revision. It is the best decision I have ever made!
I got my lap band in 2009. Like you, I had problems from the beginning. I never lost the weight I wanted to lose. Fast forward to 2015, I knew I had to do something. I started looking into revisions. By that time my reflux was so bad the surgeon I decided to use said he would only revise me to the RNY. I spent two days in the hospital. I didn't even need any pain meds after leaving the hospital. I had my surgery on Wednesday and by Monday I was back to pretty much a normal schedule. I tired easily and had to nap every afternoon, but I actually thought the recovery was easier than when I had the lap band. You will love not having everything get stuck and no more reflux. It was the best decision I ever made. Good luck to you!

My recovery was a bit more than with my band but nothing I wouldn't do again! My surgeon had informed me that the area where they removed the port would give me the most pain and it did. But it was not forever and it has been so worth it. I went back to work after 2 weeks but probably should have given myself a month. I was tired, and had to go home after 1/2 days for the first week back. I felt like a failure with my band and now I feel only success! That stuck feeling is the worst, but soon all that will be behind you. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

I agree with everything JB said. The recovery was easy and the RNY is like a paradise in comparison to the band. Good luck with your decision.

I had my revision done in 2 steps due to the bad, bad band! I found the recovery from the RnY really smooth. I think less discomfort than when the band went in; that port site was painful!! For ME "full" and "restriction" are much different now, but I'm in the minority on that.
I wish I had done this the 1st time!!
Good Luck!! Keep coming back here for friendship and support!!

I am so relieved to see that the RNY is making so many previously banded patients a weight loss success. I am scheduled for May 1st. I was banded in July 2010. I had to have my port fixed in 2013. Yesterday when I went in for my pre op evaluation it looks like my port has a mind of its own again. After multiple attempts my doctor was unable to take the fluid out of my band. So now I am just on the countdown until my surgery. I am super nervous and having doubts but deep down I know this is going to be a success for me!
