I have my surgery date!
FINALLY I HAVE MY SURGERY DATE!!! I am so excited, and somewhat petrified. I will be having surgery on August 22, 2017. Dr. Timothy Jackson is scheduled to do it (but apparently it could be any of the surgeons on the team at TWH).
So it is very real and very overwhelming now. I am hoping for a cancellation as even a week earlier would help me out. I have to be in full form and in full swing to return to work in a crazy stressful 4th quarter starting October 2nd.
Nonetheless, it is happening. What a way to start the weekend!

Fabulous! It's an exciting time. I'm also scheduled for August (first half). Hope everything goes smoothly on your journey toward surgery. I'm in appt mode, getting things taken care of.
How exciting. I kept calling for cancellations. I was bumped up on many consultations, and my surgery was bumped up 6 months.

Congratulations! I just got my date too! May 2nd! I thought they would never call. I was approved for surgery over a month ago but the call finally came! August seems so far away but then again I started this journey back in November.
Congrats on your surgery date. Did you start in November 2016 or 2015? Are you going through TWH? I started in April of 2016 and have a date of August 2017 - 16 months later

I met a lady at the beginning of November, 2016, who had the sleeve. She had lost 175 lbs. Needless to say, I was quite impressed! She gave me her surgeon's name and I contacted them and went to a seminar at the end of November. I started researching it and decided I was going to go for it. I had my first meeting with the surgeon in mid-January. Then started jumping through the hoops, lose 15 lbs., get massive amount of blood testing done, get a psych eval, meet with the NUT, have an exercise evaluation, take a 3 hour pre-surgery class, have an edoscophy. After the endoscophy in March the doctor told me he would not recommend the sleeve for me as I have really bad acid reflux and that type of surgery would make it worse. He recommended the RNY. So I changed gears and started researching that. It seemed pretty invasive to me and I almost chickened out. I went back to the doctor and had an appointment with a PA who answered all of my questions and told me if they performed WLS on me and I didn't know which one I would not be able to tell the difference except that I would lose weight faster with RNY. The cost was $5000 more but I went for it. Then a couple of people at the surgeon's office went on vacation so the scheduling was delayed for a month. I still have to meet with the NUT again about my pre-surgery diet which I am NOT looking forward to! Only 0 calorie liquids for 2 weeks! Then more blood tests and another meeting with the surgeon and I am ready for surgery on 05/02/2017 (I hope!). I don't know what TWH is. I live in East Central Florida and my surgeon is Nathan Allison in Viera. He is fellowship trained in robotic surgery - that is supposed leave smaller incisions and be more precise. So that is my adventure. My insurance company is not involved although they did pay for the psych exam and the initial blood tests. Lets keep in touch and give each other some support! I am fairly new on here and don't really know anyone. Doesn't seem like there are many Florida people on here. Take care, Roxanne L.
