It is to the right of my abdomen, where the largest incision was. It is painful only when i move
Michelle, its only been 2 days. I would be surprised if you did NOT have pain! You just had major surgery. Cut yourself some slack. Do you have pain meds? Are you taking them? These first few days take them religiously, and stay AHEAD of the pain. There are some people who brag about never having needed pain meds. Bully for them...I had a 10 in*****ision and sucked that Morphine like it was a Pixie stick :). This is not the time to be brave!! There are no trophies, given for sucking up the pain...
If you ARE taking your pain meds, good for you! Walk all you can, sip fluids all you can. If the pain is truly, truly beyond the scope of what you can handle, contact your physician, but do try all I told you first (to save time, because it's probably what you're going to be told to do...old retired nurse here)
Hope you get relief real soon. Hang in there!! It WILL get better !!!

Important preface: severe pain probably requires a medical professional's attention and guidance. What seemed to help my moderate post-op pain prompts offering these suggestions: 1) wear an abdominal binder or try holding a pillow firmly against your abdomen especially when going from laying to sitting or from sitting to standing 2) request caregiver help when moving to ease pain level 3) take a stool softener to avoid straining during bowel movements 4) walk frequently 5) sip water nearly constant 6) keep the pain medicine schedule steady 7) sleep in a recliner instead of a bed
Just a thought. With all of the new laparoscopic surgeries I think we sometimes forget that even though our visible incisions are small we still have had major surgery. The RnY, and really all WLS are not a walk in the park. Your insides look exactly the same as someone who had open surgery regardless of the size of the incisions.
I stupidly tried to wean myself off of pain meds too soon after surgery. I remember coming to the board and asking for suggestions to ease the pain. Guess what the answer was, lol?
Take your pain meds. That's why you have them. Some don't need them but I'm betting most do. At least for the first few days. You won't get addicted taking pain meds for post op pain.
IF the meds don't work to lessen your pain (there's a good chance they won't make ALL of your pain go away but they should make things much easier) call your surgeon ASAP. Even if you are fine and your surgeon just tells you to sip and walk and sip some more you'll have made them aware of your situation. They can monitor you and check in to make sure you actually are healing correctly over the next several days.
Surgery hurts. It just does. But every day you get through is a day closer to feeling better. And you will get better - 100% better. Just breathe for now, and concentrate on walking and sipping.
I had my surgery on Mar 29...was in hospital till late Apr 2 due to sooo much gas pain and bloating. Been home for 6 days now and have seen a VAST improvement...give it time. Take the meds. Now I only need them at night, more to help me sleep because my back gets sore cuz I can't lay on my side yet. My issues have been more due to 'other' related pains than the actual surgery. Sore left shoulder from escaping gas, both sciatic are irritated due to inactivity, and back pain. Surgery pain still occurs when I move large, like going from laying to standing, but it ebbs quickly when I resettle. Today was the first day I went for a walk further than within the confines of the house...Hang in there - it gets better quick from here-on in.
