Morning JB. Sorry to hear about your Dad. My mom had two seizures a few years back- they never pinpointed the cause. She thinks it was triggered by being taken off meds w/o being weaned. Not knowing a cause is frustrating- I hope they can find a cause with your dad.

Qotd: my mom was a claims adjuster for years before she went back to school and became an LPN. My Dad was a police officer in tJamaica but when he came here he could not join the police force. (Black immigrants wasn't preferred back then). So he worked security. They are both retired now.

Oh, I'm so sorry! :( How scary, waiting for answers for something like that. Praying and thinking about you all today.

My dh's surgery went well. We were there for several hours because he couldn't pee, that was the only thing! He finally did around 3pm. And it is exhausting, JB, sitting around a hospital, even for something as piddly as that. I was lucky at least that the cafeteria at this place was fantastic. My husband used to work there, so I can tell you it was not always that way, lol. But for $5 I got a really yummy salad with a big piece of salmon on it, goat cheese, berries, avocado...if I lived closer I might go there just to eat, lol.

QOTD- When I was growing up, my mom worked in banks mostly. She started out as a teller and worked her way up to assistant to the president of the bank. This was in the DC area. When I was a teenager, we moved to Florida, and such jobs do not pay diddly there. So she went to nursing school. That came out of nowhere! But she was a great nurse. My dad has done All The Things. When my parents met he was an electrician, but he has had jobs doing all sorts of things. Then when I was around 10 or so, he injured his back and couldn't work as a electrician, so he went to culinary school and was a chef until he retired. I'm not sure being a chef was much better for his back though.

I have no plans for food yet, lemme think. My 12yo is still sick. :( He's just not getting better, or he's gotten something else, not sure, but our plans for the day have been dumped because he has a fever again and I'm debating whether to go back tot he doctor.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack time need to be all about eating up leftovers in the fridge, because I'm gonna toss whatever is still there at the end of the day. I have some chicken in there, a couple of types of veggies.

Dinner- pork chops, broccoli

Did you always have candy samples in the house? Do you ever get to go to the candy supply shows/conferences? That would have been my dream as a child!

Yes and yes. She started the job when I was about 10 and we always had some type of candy in the house. Some brands weren't great, but she did have a Lindt chocolate account! She would let me go to some candy shows if they were local and I thought it was a wonderland-I come by me super morbid obesity honestly!

I am sorry for your dad. I miss my parents. We had fun together.

My dad was in the Navy. Then he worked for an electronic engineering division of GM. He was a tool and die maker. He literally built parts for the space missions that put John Glenn into space, Neal Armstrong on the moon and Alan Shepard to his golf outing on the moon as well as many other missions. They also worked on the space shuttles. He built parts for tanks used in the Gulf war at the end of his career. He would receive plans from the engineers and hand build each part. My grandsons have the photo of Alan Shepard (signed by him) golfing on the moon which he was given. My mom was a stay home mom. She was my Girl Scout leader and volunteer. She also played "bridge" and coffee clutched with the neighborhood women and golfed. She loved being a stay home mom. Tri

JB - so sorry about your dad! I've worked for two major hospital systems and the ER to room challenge is always a thing. There's a part of two regulations that is working to improve the situation, Meaningful Use, and the ACA. But both are rolling targets where there is time for the hospital to get a system in place and track, then the requirement to meet targets kicks in. If ACA stands, Hospitals will lose Federal dollars (reduced reimbursements on Medicare and Medicaid billing) if they don't reach reasonable time targets.

I'm guessing you're in the Midwest? Most major hospital systems have implemented cruel, heartless, austerity programs within their cafeteria systems curtailing all high carb, high fat options. Even our high end restaurant here where I work had to rip out their fryer and no longer offers their truffle fries (sob!). No sugary drinks, no donuts... it's TERRIFYING! Of course post RNY I'm far more appreciative of the changes...

QOTD- My mom taught Health and Gym in a middle school for about six years before my oldest sister was born, then she became a stay at home mom. Dad was also a teacher, he taught History some, but most of his career he was a wood and metal shop teacher :) Needless to say, all four kids (all girls) are very handy with tools, small engine repair, wood working and we can all explain most traditional sports rules etc. I'm the only kid that had zero interest in sports. Technically I would have been thrilled to get into equestrian sports, but since those cost a ton, they were never on our menu of things to pick from. I had a lot of ice skating lessons (we lived in a college town with a rink and group lessons were very reasonable), and swimming lessons at the Y...

Oh JB, I am so sorry to hear about your dad and am praying for him!

QOTD: I am very proud of both of my parents, both of whom have passed away now. My dad was an architect and designed hundreds of churches, schools and other buildings in our home town and surrounding towns. My mom was the author of 7 books and a well-known regular writer for Guidepost's Magazine's Daily Devotional books. (Google Marilyn Morgan Helleberg). She was also a college professor and an airplane pilot! She was a stay-at-home mom when we were younger and went back to college and started her writing career in her mid-thirties. She was an amazing lady!
