antidepressant sr

Have been on Paxil but found serotonin was not as much the issue for me as dopamine which Wellbutrin addresses. I wish you luck on this journey and pray for good days for you as the bad ones are hell. God bless.

Hi Terrak,

There are so many factors involved in depression it is impossible for us couch-doctors to say exactly what's going on so please take my post with a grain of salt and always reach out to your medical team (pharmacist, psychiatrist, surgeon, PCP, etc.).

For myself I am taking Wellbutrin SR 150 two times a day as well, along with a second antidepressant. I actually started taking this after my RNY as my previous meds had pooped out and we were trying to find a replacement. It seems like you have been on them for a while, so it is possible that it has pooped out on you. The pharmacist at the bariatric clinic said that the SR would be okay, but I might need to increase the dose to deal with the malabsorption of the RNY. I find my own depression to be very cyclical (seasonal?), and some days I feel better managed than others -- although this has been the best I've felt in a long time. I also have found that the vitamins I'm taking seem to have a big impact as well on how I'm feeling day-to-day. I know it can be extremely stressful when our meds aren't working the way they used to, but I strongly encourage trying out different combos until you find what works for you. *hugs*

Meg~

Thank you for your sharing. I too have cyclical depression and use to use light therapy but since moving to Fl that is not so much the issue. Omega 3 with a 2 to 1 ratio as well as some other supplements I have found in my research are helpful. I am not so sure that my med has pooped out as much as I just have not been getting it. I am now trying the immediate release and crushing it like chewable baby aspirin to see if that will kick start it. Good luck to you on this journey.

My doctor put me on Wellbutrin to be taken three times a day. It does work.

Depression sucks a bag of dicks.

Is that the 100 immediate release? How long did it take before you felt it started to help? Did they give you anything for the anxiety. Have been thru this Sooo many times and so hard to get thru until something helps. The waiting is the worse!

Waiting is hard. I am on 75mgs three times a day. I think it is working. Pretty much I have my ups and downs with depression.

The medicine doesn't always feel like it is working. It can be hard to get out of bed some morning.

I have to really focus on my depression. I do get scared at times when I feel like I am worse than normal.

Getting help with a therapist has helped me not only with my depression. It has helped me with weight loss also.

Making ourselves get up and out of the house does help.

I hope you find the help you need. I did and still take Xanex for my anxiety. The only thing with it is has side effects. It is addicting. I wish truly I never went on it.

My psychiatrist put me on bupropion and Xanax. With each episode I had to wean myself off 3 .5 a day and 1 .25 Xanax as needed until the bupropion kicked in. Each time the anxiety got worse while I titrated down but once thru it I was ok and the bupropion was on board by then. Antidepressants that address serotonin don' t work for me. So there isn't much left out there for me to try. Also have thru the years seen many therapists and seeing one now. Helped once the Med started to work so I could concentrate. They keep reminding me I have made it thru it before! Thank God I have some good days, moments but Sooo disappointed when I have the bad ones. Good thoughts to you.

After I had surgery I was on cloud nine. I was living a rush when the weight loss was happening. I felt amazing. Didn't really think about my depression.

I think our bodies do change after surgery. So getting the right dosage is very important.

Is it a regular doctor who gave you the anti-depressants?

If it is it maybe a good idea to look into a psych doctor. They understand how the meds work.

Sometimes, an antidepressant will "crap out" (for lack of a better term) after you've been taking it a while, and you'll need to switch to something else-- even for someone who's never had WLS. It's happened to me several times since I started psych meds about 15 years ago.

If the Wellbutrin isn't working, it may be time for more trial-and-error to find something new.

Hi Terrak,

I am still pre-op so I hope this info isn't too irrelevant since my body has not yet undergone all the changes a WLS patient like yourself has. I felt compelled to share what I've been going through with Wellbutrin lately though in hopes it could shed some light on the mysteries of your situation.

I began taking 150mg XL once daily about 6 months ago for anxiety. It helped tremendously and also helped me quit smoking. When I decided on surgery, my PA told me I would need to switch to IR at some point because of the malabsorption aspect of the surgery. I made the switch in January and my depression, which I haven't experienced in nearly 10 year**** me like a ton of bricks. My PCP guesses that since I take the Wellbutrin first thing in the morning, there is nothing left in me by the time I wake up the next day. This makes so much sense as I spent about 2 weeks holed up in my bed avoiding the world, tired as ever and just feeling crappy. She decided to put me on 100mg IR tablets three times a day. That was on March 8, just about a month ago and I can't tell you how awesome I feel! I won't give the meds all the credit, I made some changes to my daily routine that I also think have really helped as well. But hearing your story made me want to share mine as it sounds like you could benefit from an IR tablet multiple times a day. I would love to stay updated with you and find out what you decide to do! I'm sorry for the novel, hope it wasn't a complete waste of time!
