Goals for my new decade
Today is my 50th birthday and I have a tradition of making resolutions at my birthday rather than on New Year's. So here are a few of my resolutions for my new decade.
- Run or wog (walk-jog) a 5K.
- Walk up the 6 flights of stairs in my office building.
- Be able to swim laps for 30 minutes.
- Learn to eat more mindfully.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to accomplish the last one from those of you who practice mindful eating. I am finding it hard to transition from pre-op shoveling food in my face to post-op slow eating. I want to learn to appreciate each mouthful and think about what I am eating more purposefully.
Also I am blessed to have a good friend who has also had RNY who made me a tiny SF birthday cake. It's a mini bundt carrot cake and just the size to share but have a few bites of celebration yumminess.
I had planned to work today because I've been out of the office so much after surgery, but I decided that I would take the day off instead. My only big plan is to take a long walk at a local lake that has a nice trail loop.

Happy Birthday to you!!!!
That mindful eating is hard for me. One thing I do is to put my plate in another room. I get my bite and leave the room. I'll busy myself checking my son's homework, putting in a load of laundry, something/anything. I don't have to do it all the time. But those times when I've gone too long between meals I have the urge to shovel. This helps me not shovel.
Happy Birthday!
It's hard to get used to being mindful... just last night, I sat miserable after dinner because I realized about half way through that I was shoveling it down! Ugh.
Feeling the pain of eating too fast gives you a good kick in the ass when you need it. Usually I really do try to put the fork down between bites... if I do that it at least reminds me to slow down. Problem is sometimes I forget to do that, and last night we had a friend over, so I was talking and not paying attention.
