Recovery question, RNY Wed, visiting nurse tomorrow
But I'm hurting and its late as I'm getting a little freaked out...
TMI WARNING
I've had a small stool about once a day for the last few days. Each time it is basically made up of clotted blood. At the hospital they said it was normal, but that it would only be the first couple. How long did this happen to you? I read so much about this surgery but never heard anything about the bloody stool. I mean it makes sense, intestine was cut, there would be some bleeding but...
Also making me nervous, the significant majority of my pain is from a small spot about two inches from my belly button, not associated with any of the incisions. It's bad when I engage my abs, and it's getting more painful, more often, and taking longer to die down. It's a pinching, hot, burn... Is this normal? If it were at an incision I would understand, but the closest incision in a few inches away.

I'm glad you're going to get it checked out soon, I will say that with my recent band removal the muscle pain I was feeling wasn't matched up exactly with my incision spots and I realized it's because where my outer incisions are when I'm up and mobile is shifted from where they would be when I'm prone on the operating table.....so it seemed like they were a few inches apart from where the incision through the muscle wall when it came to my aches and pains.
Let us know what happens, I hope you feel better soon!

While I had never thought about or heard of bloody stool, mine was more the runs at that point, and I may not have been paying attention. :)
You just had a major surgery, so to have pain doesn't sound unusual, and it is not necessarily going to 'line up' with your incisions. That is where they are putting the instruments in, it doesn't mean it is the only place they are working.
Are you taking your pain medication? It is there for a reason if you need it. I would call the Doctor's service before I went to the ER, unless there is a noticeable change in something.
Let us know how you do tomorrow with the nurse.

My stools were very runny. As far as the pain goes, I felt it areas other than where my incisions were too. I ended having more incisions than usual as well. The doctor said they had a hard time moving the instruments due to a very thick abdominal wall.
The surgeon said that anything that I was concerned about to always contact him.
I hope you get the answers you are looking for. Keep us posted.
