1 Month Post-Surgery Weight loss

My surgery was Feb 22nd and I now on soft solids phase. I am finding it very difficult to get aluy fluids in, especially the protein supplements. Also, I am obsessing over the fact that my weight is not dropping faster. It seems like its 1 lb a day!

I am eating 3 TBSP of yogurt for breakfast, 3 TBSP of Cottage cheese for lunch and 3 TBSP of moist meat or turkey chili for dinner.

Am I eating enough food? For exercise I am walking 2x day with my puppy for about 30 minutes and hoping to get back to the gym soon.

At this point 1 lb/day = 30 lbs/month That's excellent!! Relax, get your liquids in, walk your puppy and enjoy those soft solids!! Fluids are important; try unflavored protein powder in warm broth for a change. I know those cold type protein drinks can be difficult to get down.

Thank you Patty - I need to keep reminding myself that! It helps to hear from others who have been through the journey...

Three tablespoons doesn't seem like much, but think of how small your pouch still is! If you think you're not getting in enough calories, and you're super tired, you may try to add three tablespoons of something twice a day as snacks. I know when I was on the soft food at about a month out, I was eating very little, but I was eating it five and six times a day.

I couldn't do the protein shakes. Believe me, I tried. I still heavily rely on meat for my protein. One thing I did do was puree tuna, light mayo, a boiled egg, tiny bit of pickle juice. It's really soft, packed with protein, and a heck of a lot better than the protein supplements. You might also check out Eggface's ricotta bake. Delicious, and something you can have on soft solids!

It's difficult to get the fluids in, but you will get there. Right now, the most important thing is to keep trying. Sixty-four ounces is really not a lot of fluids, but it seems that way to us because we have to wait so long after eating, and we can only take small sips.

Be patient! Everything will even out. Oh....and a pound a day is awesome! Keep it up!

I have a hard time with all the protein powder/shakes too! I can't handle the sucralose or other artificial sweetners. I just bought Isopure Unflavored protein powder and add that to tea, soup, etc. For some reason my pouch doesn't like cold drinks right now so I'm trying different kinds of tea. I've never been a tea drinker but like Tazo Passion. Also TONS of chicken pho broth. Lots of flavor so that helps! Good luck!

30 lbs the first month is definitely at the high end of the range. It seems like I see a lot more high-teen/low 20s losses. I lost 16 lbs the first month. You are doing extremely well.

My surgery was feb 21 and I am down 24 since surgery day. I eat a lot more than you. Here is a sample of a day

breakfast. 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

snack. 1/2 premier protein drink

lunch: half cup shredded chicken made with Indian spice

snack; 2 mini turkey meatballs

dinner: 1 salmon cake with dill sauce.

Yikes.

I had the same reaction Leann73 had, yikes. You are eating such a small amount compared to what my surgeon had me on. I could not tolerate Leanns menu but I did have a whole yogurt, or a wholeprotein drink. I would have 4-6 small meals per day at one month. Are you tracking? If so, how much protein?

I would drink Premier Protein shakes because they have 30 grams of protein, because it was easier to get my protein in.

You are doing great.Relax and the weight will keep coming off.

Please don't be disappointed or frustrated if your weight loss slows down here shortly. There's often a stall that comes after the initial big drop of weight right after surgery, and the overall loss going downward is going to start looking more like stairs than a diagonal line.

You're doing great! Do check that you are getting in enough protein and fluids. You don't want to start losing muscle mass. 60-70 g of protein/day was what I was told, do you have instructions from your surgery center?
