Food quantities

Ive got a question re the amount of food I'm eating. I'm following the guidelines given to me by Guelph (for you fellow Ontario folks) and it seems like my bite sizes and the amounts of food are more than what Windsor described in the nutritional classes. I'm 3 weeks out and in phase 2 full fluids. It says 1/2 cup of creamed strained soup made with 1/2 cup of milk (to boost protein). For breakfast it says 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal made with 1/2 cup milk. 1 cup seems like a lot. Also, i can eat a couple of bites (teaspoons) no problem, take a break for a few minutes and do that again. Feels like I should be taking smaller bites and the amounts should be smaller than 1 cup by what I learned in Windsor. Kinda confusing.

Also, do surgeons make the pouch bigger than an egg?

My folks beat the crap out of me when I eat more than a total of a half cup of food, even yogurt. I'm wondering if "made with" is just for prep and "eating" goes back to half cup. Save the rest.

I'm going to call them today and clarify it. On the phase 2 first page it says

-1.5 to 2 l of fluid a day (I'm good there)

  • approx 125-250 ml (1/2 cup to 1 cup of full fluids per meal
  • 3 small meals, 3 small snacks spaces throughout the day (every 2-3 hours)

seems like 1 cup is possible, and I guess if it takes an hour to eat it (it never does for me) then it has time to go through the pouch. I'm usually good for a half hour. Hence the confusion. The last thing I want to do is stretch things. Guess I'll assume it's the lower number but I also don't want to go too low with caloric intake.

That's a good idea. I know now I'm unlimited on liquids, but food liquid they still beat me. Believe it or not, they want me to toss out 2tbs from a 6oz yogurt before eating it. That was a conversation I had about a month ago, so at 3 months out. They told me I can work up to over 1/2 cup towards 1 cup only after my 1 year mark.

Don't worry about calorie**** your protein goals and keep carbs low. I'm currently targeting at least 40% less carbs than my protein levels for the day.

they're probably saying a cup because the oatmeal is half liquid and the soup is all liquid. If it was solid food, no way could you get in that much early out.

Update. I called the clinic, and the dietician said that 1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal plus 1/2 cup milk was right but if I couldn't fini**** to listen to my body. I've been making 1/4 cup oatmeal mixed with 1/2 cup milk and nuking it, which is fine. As for the soup, I've made tomato OR mushroom (strained) with a full can of milk instead of half water, and that's fine too at 1 cup per meal. It takes me a half hour anyway to get that in, which she said was OK. I was reading it right, it just feels like a lot.

Programs are so different. I am six months out and they wanted me at 3/4- 1 cup per meal at three months. I have my checkup next week but my paperwork says 1-1-1/2 cups per meal at six months. If it is salad or soup I could easily get that much in, but if it is dense protein nothing close to that.
