Why can't people be happy for your weightloss?

People fear the status quo changing... if you have always been the "fat friend" or "eating buddy" etc. what happens when you aren't? It messes with their world... so they do something called "leveling" it's the ****ty side of human nature... "Oh you had THAT surgery? But you'll a.) never get to eat xyz again, b.) you will have all this skin, c.) I know someone's sister's friend's cousin's dog groomer's friend who had THAT surgery and gained it all back or dropped dead. d.) Ohh I lost weight too but I did it the hard way. e.) you are getting too skinny or look older now. It's their attempt at bringing you down and making things "level" again. It's about them... not you. Not cool, not supportive, not who you want ultimately as friends. Widen your circle ;) if you want to keep them in your life (or have to like when it's a family member doing it) just avoid talking to them about weight loss... if they bring it up change the subject.

I found that the line that shuts people up right away, is: "my doctor and I set these weight goals together". Because really, we treat it like it is a fashion issue, but this is a medical issue that she is butting her nose into. People need to be reminded of that.

Today..... she told me that I need to gain10-15 lbs..... I told her no I don't. That's not my goal.... I plan to lose at least 5 more pounds....

that shut her up. I think she's jealous that this surgery has been successful for me. If not I don't know what it is. I'm 5'0 now (because of kyphosis surgery) and weigh 123.8.

You're being sensitive. It is THEIR problem to worry about not yours. Ignore it, words only allow them to have power over you if you LET them. Stop letting it "irk you" and just go to your happy place....The ONLY one who needs to be "Happy" with you weight loss is you, right? I mean did you get this surgery for the "world" or just for "YOU"???

(I got my surgery for ME only)

Me PRE-OP

me POST OP nearly 7 years.

Warmly,

Jackie E.
