Rapid Weight Loss 11 years post op

Hello,

I had the RNY surgery in October 2006 and have had little to no complications from the procedure. I lost 150 pounds and maintained that loss until approximately 4-5 months ago. Since I have suddenly dropped another 45+ pounds and not sure why, since I had no intentions to lose weight. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did the doctor's do about it? I am now at a dangerously low weight, chronic fatigue and weakness.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Kelli

sudden unexplained weight loss is always a sign that something is amiss. Please call your primary care physician and make and appointment for a checkup. And let us know how it goes!

Well at 11 years out it is not from the weight loss surgery. A possibility is cancer. Please see a doctor immediately.

When my thyroid was overactive I lost weight fast- with no effort- and was incredibly weak. Get some blood work done-- it'll be your staring point to figure what's going on.

Not sure why you waited until you lost 45 lbs.

I was close to goal, but when I started losing weight rapidly without really working on it - I called my doc to figure out what was going on.

He run blood work and...My poop. Normally I was constipated, but when I was losing weight I had more runs...

As we found out - I had a simple intestine virus...But I lost app 7 lbs before things got better.

It could be bacterial or viral infection, parasites, or more serious issues, like pancreas issues, or liver.

Go to the doc to address the issues.

100% agree with the others... there are many many reasons for that loss that can be addressed by your doctor. Highly recommend calling for an appt, and not letting them book you more than a week or two out if at all possible. Usually with that type of symptom they'll try to get you in relatively quickly.

As the others have said - please get to your doctor and have them do a physical. Also start charting your intake each day, this will help you narrow down the possibilities.

I apologize for not including all of the information. Due to a history of losing only 10 pounds was a challenge and then maintaining the same weight for approximately 11 years, I did start contacting all of my doctors and scheduling appointments after the initial 10 pound weight loss. I have had various lab work, x rays, etc, the one thing all of them requested yet my insurance has denied six times is a catscan. Still no answers and have continued to lose weight, hair is thinning and falling out again, fight the fatigue, nausea and still no answers. All results come back normal according to the doctor. I know I have Fibromyalgia, arthritis, depression and anxiety, which are also getting worse. It is just so frustrating being the only one concerned with this situation and getting no answers. I can't fight what I don't know and cannot seem to get any answers from the medical community. The weight loss dramatically increased following a hysterectomy, which the gynecologist assures me that it is usually the other way around and would have nothing to do with that procedure. Where do you go when the "specialist" have no answers? I pray for guidance every day and night and just want to live a quality of life with my two sons, which is so far from what is happening at the moment!! I do appreciate the comments and suggestions from those who posted in response to my initial post. Thank you again!!

If you haven't you should weigh and log your food intake very closely. Myfitnesspal is a great tool for that. It will give doctors a better chance to evaluate how many calories you are taking in, what your macros are, and hopefully get to the bottom of things.
