In all fairness you have RNY and initial weight loss is much quicker for us due to malabsorption.

So it is like you are racing and she is riding a bicycle and you are driving a car.

I absolutely do understand that and I wish that was all there was to it. She isn't making good choices like snacking all the time, eating a lot of carbs and drinking wine and alcohol regularly.

She may be making some bad choices, but to lose 60 pounds in a year with VSG, she is making a lot of good choices. I have seen many people lose less than 30 pounds in a year with VSG and I have seen many lose 100 pounds in a year with RNY.

Losing 60 pounds in a year with VSG is excellent. You are both in the honeymoon stage of your surgeries.

What matters is not so much how quickly you lose as how well you maintain.

In school there are A students, C students and students that fail. We all have different intelligence levels and not everyone is smart enough to make good choices. All you can do is try to lead by example and hope she learns better methods for managing her weight.

Well said and point taken. I am hopeful she is motivated by me and looks at her choices more closely as a result. She is very sensitive and I'm worried about her feeling passed up by 'little sister' and her feelings toward me changing.

I SO agree with White Dove. Tell her just that! Just let her know how good it is and that you are so happy that you two are on your journeys together. There is nothing better than sisters! I know, I have one and lost another (morbid obese, heart trouble). So tell her how proud you are of her and you are her biggest fan! Don't let this come between you. Encourage her to be able to talk to you about anything!

You are absolutely right. I did tell her I was proud of her and how beautiful she was today. I love the biggest fan part, I will have to tell her that.

Good deal! The best outcome is for you both to be successful, as you already are!

This doesn't have to affect your relationship, especially forever.

A lot of us become droning bores the first year after surgery. After that, we tend to stop talking about it nonstop. Maybe if you can find common ground that doesn't involve surgery you will be able to spend time together without surgery being your only topic.

It sounds as if you are close. Has she expressed dissatisfaction, or are you reading into it a bit?
