Terrified
I had the sleeve done on 11-27-2013. Started getting stomach pain about a year later. Removed gallbladder 3/2015 ( for no reason). Pain never stopped. Vomitting, reflux and stomach issues only got worse. Here we are today- Doc says gallbladder removed for no reason, I have severe reflux, damaged esophagus with dismotility, mild gastroparesis.
Insurance just approved revision to bypass. Going under on 4/20. Help me please. I need to here the horror stories so I can prepare myself for the worst. That's how I am
I have not heard any horror stories. I have heard a lot of stories of people getting instant relief from reflux by getting RNY.
The gallbladder tends to cause problems after weight loss surgery, so you just had it removed before it developed stones and sludge.
My surgeon would not remove mine while it was healthy but took it out when I got a stone. I don't miss it at all.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I've only ever heard success stories. If you are bad enough to need a revision because of reflux, then you're going to feel so much better when it's finally done. I can't imagine the pain that you've been experiencing, since I started out with the RNY and haven't had any reflux issues. But I do know that my RNY is fine, I've had no complications at all, and my quality of life is wonderful.
Anything has got to be better than what you are living with. Why do you think that it's going to be horrible. They wouldn't do the revision if they didn't think that it would improve your situation.
I hope you'll find that the discomfort you've been living with, is far worse than your revision surgery.
Reminds me of the year I lived in excruciating pain from a toothache. I was 16. I was terrified to tell my parents because of the dentist horror stories I had heard. I knew it was bad...I knew I was in for a root canal ...oh the horror stories. I tried everything. Anbesol, tylenol, cough syrup just to sleep, etc.
Finally, the next summer, at a friends sleepover, it was the worst ever. I couldn't hide it anymore. Her mom had even dipped q-tips in Brandy mixed with cloves. She ended up calling my mother. My mom took me for a root canal the next day. I was terrified. Cried all the way there. Two seconds in to the appointment, I felt immediate relief after the novacaine (sp) kicked in. It was the first relief I had felt in a year. The root canal was a breeze compared to what I lived with.
Obviously a toothache and a major surgery don't compare - but I hope you understand my point & find relief with your revision. Yes, you'll need to recover from surgery again, but, I think you'll find it'll be way worth it afterwards.
Good luck!

Ditto. Except I've had a few small episodes. They suck and actually help me remember how bad it was. Why did we put up with it for so long?

Insurance and your physician would never have approved having your gall bladder removed if there wasn't a reason for it to be removed. There was a reason. It sounds like you had/have multiple things going on. Hopefully the revision will help.
Good luck!

I don't really know much of what could go wrong. That is really what I was hoping to hear. I keep reading how everyone felt instantly better after surgery. I wanted to see the other side of the coin
