Hi everyone!
My name is Jeanne-Nicole. This is my first time posting. I had my first month post op check up yesterday and it did not go so well :(
I've lost 20% of excess weight, but my body is starving causing hypersomnia, extreme itching, irritability, heart palpitations and I am so danged thirsty all the time.
The doc wants me up to 800 calories a day, she is giving me 2 weeks to get into the swing of eating. It is just so hard. I feel like, if I still have 120 extra pounds why isn't my body using it?
My good friend was like 'just eat Jeanne', but it isn't that simple. I'm not hungry, everything tastes and smells awful (even my toothpaste is gross) and my pouch tolerates very little. I am so gun shy from vomiting that most days I'd rather not risk putting anything in there. It's funny that a 255 pound woman is starving, but not funny really.
Anyway, just wanted to share with you guys and let you know I am out here lurking and soaking up all the knowledge from your posts :)
Welcome Jeanne-Nicole
We are sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Your health comes first so work with your surgeon. I know it's hard to believe but it will get better and it will be worth it. I had complications and was laid up for 3 months. I just laid there thinking what the heck did I do? Being 330 pounds was not that bad and watched the Food Network. It did get better and I am so happy I had the surgery. Keep us posted on how you are doing

Hi! So sorry you are having a rough time. I truly hope things get better for you soon. Not sure what types of food your plan allows but if you haven't already checked out theworldaccordingtoeggface's recipes maybe check around her blog and see if anything sounds good to you. I know I was loving her ricotta bake early on. Hang in there!

Sorry you feel so terrible. What types of things are you trying? Are protein shakes making you vomit? If they aren't making you physically sick you just have to commit to sipping all day even if you don't feel like it. There are literally thousands of brands out there and there is bound to be one that agrees with you. Try ones that have veggie protein base instead of whey if it's the milk making you sick... And try drinking liquids at all different temperatures. You can do this but you will have to get creative and try things out!
However, if you are LITERALLY dehydrated and starving you should be in the hospital and hooked up to IV fluids. Dehydration is a vicious cycle because one of the side effects is not wanting liquids. You have to commit to forcing yourself to drink, or get hydrated at the hospital if it comes to that.
Hello and welcome.
Dehydration will cause a host of ills, including nausea. It's really important to get in your water.
Does water itself make you vomit? Sometimes trying a different temperature of water can help. I also drank hot, unsweetened herbal tea, usually chamomile, at your stage because it was mild and soothing on my uncertain stomach.
A lot of us go through a period in which food is completely unappealing. Food eventually regains its appeal.
What foods are you eating?

I am drinking without issue. I get in at least 48oz. I am not dehydrated according to the doctor. I just feel so danged thirsty all the time.
I can tolerate ground beef, chili, lentils, usually pinto beans, usually taco meat, usually tuna salad, sometimes eggs, sometimes sardines, Brie and cheddar. I gave up on chicken for now. There are a lot of things for me to try now that I have the 'green light'.
The flavor on the protein shake went from yea this is good to tasting too artificial in a matter of days. I am lactose intolerant so I already am used to Lactaid brand milk. The dietitian did say I can try drinking milk (without any protein shake) which would be better than nothing. Anything mild flavored like mozz cheese tastes god awful. Even my kids smell bad, not joking, they make me gag and I it is just normal I was outside playing smell.
I've never been a fan of artificial sweeteners or flavors, it took desperation to try the sugar free jello in the hospital LOL!
The hormone dumping is probably heightening your sense of smell and might be throwing off your sense of taste.
If you can increase your water intake you might feel better. Milk is a no go for me.
It does get better. This is an adjustment period. Hang in there.
