What's on Your Monday Menu, RNYers?
on 3/13/17 2:03 am
Good morning everyone! It's Monday morning and oh boy does it feel early after daylight savings time. 4am is early enough to set the alarm every day... But 3am? Ugh! But here in Boston today is better known as Blizzard Eve! Yep we are getting a big one tomorrow and there is absolutely know way that we will have school tomorrow. Now the only thing up in the air is whether there will be school on Wednesday or not! TWO cozy work from home days in a row would be epic. You know what I am rooting for!
Saturday I ate so poorly. Sometimes being in maintenance is just so difficult. There are days when I feel like I should be able to eat "like a normal person" again and just go off the rails. I didn't eat much on Saturday but none of it was good and I was just so mad at myself for letting myself think it was okay to stop trying. The key to maintenance is never taking your eyes off the prize. Anyway I recovered nicely yesterday with a 5 mile run at a 15 minute/mile pace (yaaaay--super proud of myself!) and a day on shakes and yogurt. I feel like I detoxed from the crappy food yesterday, and today I am going to start a self-monitored AMAW for a few days to keep it going.
QOTD: Do you think it is a good idea to make faux "healthy" versions of bad-for-you foods, post-op? There are zillions of low-carb and low-sugar versions of old dessert favorites that tempt me more and more when I am on Pinterest these days. I have avoided them so far because I think it is a slippery slope from fake cheesecake to real cheesecake, personally. But after a crappy day of eating on Saturday, I wonder if fake crap would have been better than real crap. Lol. Thoughts?

qotd: I have suprised myself with the fact that I can limit myself now compared to before surgery, so I can make fake foods and only eat just 1...lol I still really have no real appetite and I hope and pray every day that it stays that way!

Hey There JB -
I don't usually post on this thread as I am one of the (gasp) rare folks here that doesn't use MFP or track my food. I am not an advocate of not tracking, it's more that this is what works for me. Regardless, given where I currently live and where I have been living I don't have access to the same brands of food so it's a bit pointless. All that said, I have been thinking about what you and Grim have said about paying it forward as an OH member with a few years of a experience and thought WTH.
I am with you - it's all about staying in the moment and keeping your eye on the ball. As for your QOTD? I absolutely do not make faux (meaning WL low carb versions/sugar free versions) of trigger foods nor do I want to rely on those kinds of products as it is almost impossibel to rely on having access to them long term and this isn't a diet. It's my life as I know it from here on out. BTDT when I had the LapBand. With my RNY upgrade I try to only eat non processed foods and real protein with the exception of my morning protein powder and yogurt breakfast. And this breakfast proves my point! It's a real PITA to drag around protein powder and costs a fortune to get it over here. Sigh. I am only human.
Good luck with the blizzard!
So here's my menu today:
I am 3.5 years out from RNY revision. Today I weighed in at 119 pounds. Trying to get that back up to 125-135 but it takes time.
3 cups coffee with milk
i small plain yogurt w/ 27g of extra protein added, hand full of almonds
Lunch: Sashimi (2 pieces of tuna, 1 shrimp, one scallop and 1 slice of swordfish)
Snack: hunk of colby jack cheese and Kasagi peas
Dinner: Chicken curry with small piece of eggplant
4 liters of water. Walked 14,350 steps and climbed 34 flights of stairs according to my iPhone.
ETA: Spelling nightmare thanks to auto correct
I don't think I am that special!
But I do struggle to keep my weight on the higher side of normal BMI. It's a funny problem to have I know and one I am not really comfortable with to be honest. But I drop weight fairly quickly when I am out of my routine and with my move to Japan these past 3 months have been WAY out of my habitual comfort zone!
I want to come spend a day with you and your menu!
My step daughter is in Japan at the Airforce base. Her husband is a pilot, and they've been there for almost 2 years now... our plan is to get there before he gets reassigned, but it hasn't happened yet.

I hope you make it happen! I am sure she would be thrilled for the visit and it is an incredible place to see and experience. Worth the hassle, time and money IMO.
And of course I am always up for an International OH meet up! Got lots of cool haunts to share! Seriously -
