SIBO and Gut Motility
I'll never know if I had sibo and RNY made it worse, or I got it because of RNY. it is chicken or egg question. an dhow big the egss is - was..
The truth is - that low pouch acid, plus motility issues predisposes us to SIBO. Not everyone with has RNY will get SIBO, and not everyone who has SIBO had any type of WLS.
I know I always had issues with constipation but I never had so much pain, bloating or discomfort. Losing my BG was my starting point to a severe IBS. I lost GB because I lost weight due to RNY...
IMPO - because we have RNY - it is much easier to get food-born infection, and SIBO..
as for the functional medicine person - make sure they are familiar with sibo and know how to treat it...it is not going to be one time visit... and it can take very long time to get good improvement.

Hey guys.
This is an interesting thread. I had my rny in March 17. My starting weight was 230. I'm now at 142.
I don't seem to be absorbing well. My weight seems to have bottomed but I'm still having trouble with nutrient deficiencies and been anemic.
I've been trying to have an Endo / colonoscopy and the last three tries at these tests my stomach has not been "empty" and my bowel not clean despite the "prep".
I believe my system is fast in terms of gastric emptying and my bowel movements are mostly water.
My gastro wants me to have and Upper GI series and a gastric emptying test. HALAB your posts seem to imply you have similar issues?
I've also been using a strong probiotic and I'm having an "orange" and "sticky" discharge in my stool. Something fungal? SIBO?
Now I'm wondering if my system is slow and the lack of a stool and jus****ery movement is a system of slow motility.
Any feedback very much appreciated.
