Regained control
I don't know about you, but I feel that this surgery has allowed me to regain control of my body. Whenever my stomach started rumbling, anything and everything in my sight was fair game. Now, my stomach doesn't really rumble anymore, and I feel that I am letting my mind make my decisions and not my stomach. Some days are more challenging than others, but I love this sense of control I have, now.
I think it gives you the chance to reset your habits if you can... but I also know that many don't accomplish that...
Yes, it's a feeling of more control,,, until the day it isn't. I've had a few days now that I've felt completely out of control, and it's a really scary feeling! I do believe though that because I started out so committed to changing my habits, it's made it easier to reel it back in though.
I feel sorry for those that don't make the necessary changes in the first months, because it definitely gets harder, and I see how some folks have regain.

I was just thinking about this the last couple of days. I was so scared after I first had WLS, and today is my 6-mo surgiversary. But I think because of my daily posting to the menu thread and watching what others are eating, I have really gotten into some good habits. I don't even think about eating pasta, potatoes, rice, treats anymore. When it is time to eat, what automatically comes to mind are protein sources... greek yogurt, cheese, jerky, nuts, sometimes meat ;) and I crave salads some days. Salad dressing is my biggest splurge these days! Most all of my choices are protein forward. I have been in three early meetings this week, all three had breakfast treats that I did not even look twice at.
I was watching a pizza commercial last night and thought how unappetizing it looked. I used to be a pizza fanatic. I could eat half of a Costco pizza at one sitting. Wow.

Six months!!!?? It just flies by, doesn't it?
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

I feel as though I've gained control of what I'm eating but it's a daily struggle to not eat too often or too much when I'm not physically hungry. I haven't given in yet but it's pretty rough. I need to develop a hobby or something because I now know it's a boredom issue.
I don't have any desire right now for sugary or carb things but I seriously could eat vegetables all day long if I allowed myself to. I would never have believed that but it's my truth now.
