Revision. Pissed!

So they found a "tiny" gastric fistula Monday with the swallow test. Now, mind you, I'd originally gone in wanting a revision to renew my RNY. So after an EEG, then a swallow test, now they want to do the revision. I'm really frustrated! I have to wait for the surgical team to go over my car to see if I will be a candidate for this surgery. Um, yes, somethings WRONG. I've gained 75 pounds in 9 months! I've not changed my eating habits, for 4 years.

Just thought I'd update if anyone cares. I'm just so angry!

I'd rather take the time and have my surgeons know what they were getting into, than to have them rush in and not be prepared.

Will insurance cover the revision? There is a lot that goes into it, don't you think?

You're not going anywhere and neither is your fistula. Be patient and hopefully they will do what they think is best.

Yes, my insurance will cover my revision. Can't you imagine I'm frustrated, though? I'm a professional counselor and no one understands this. Venting my frustration!

It sounds more like your frustrated that you can't control this situation, or map out the solution. You're the patient now, not the professional.

Oh, I can totally understand your frustration. I'd probably be feeling the same way, it's just when I'm on the outside looking in, it's easier for me to think about it logically and rationally.

I hope you get it figured out quickly.

So sorry it took them this long to get on board and that you have to wait a bit longer on top of it. Hang in there!

Thanks, Renee - how did your revision go? How much different does it feel to have an RNY instead of the band?

I'd be super frustrated too. But it's good that they took the time to do all the testing - they can't really justify opening you up without knowing if that will fix the problem!

I'm glad that they've figured out what's wrong so they know how to fix it now. And, for that, I'd be happy!
