Going Nutty with this Itching!
So, no rash or hives, just itching?
I think that someone, maybe White Dove, has said something about us shedding our skin more with weight loss and needing to keep up on exfoliation.
You might want to try to get a loofah and scrub down really well to slough off the old cells and then get some good lotion and see if that helps.
Personally, I've had issues with allergies, so I know about chronic itching, and it sucks!
actually, for about a year before surgery, I had some serious issues with chronic urticaria. I had hive weals all over my body and they couldn't figure out why. I was taking Zyrtec, Claritin AND Hydroxyzine so I could function, and I still had hives.
I haven't had a flare up since I had surgery, thank goodness!
I'm actually in the process of weaning off benadryl daily - my skin itches so bad at night I can't sleep and took 1-2 tabs nightly for over a year. Since surgery I have been able to sleep a handful of nights with NO benadryl. So happy about that! I scrubbed good in the shower and my normally oily skin doesn't need lotion, but it drank up handfuls after my shower... weird! I have NEVER had dry skin like that. I guess that's part of it too!
So as of this morning I now have a rash, too, on my back. This is the exact same progression I had with the itchies within the first couple days post op - which is weird. Only good news is I already have the appt tomorrow with the surgeon and if she needs to send me to my primary I'll still have another business day before I have to return to work.
Don't use lotions on it, it will make it worse. You have to get the dead skin cells off.
Everyday your body shreds millions of old, dry skin cells. With rapid weight loss the body can't keep up and a layer of dry skin forms. It is itchy and painful and lotion makes it worse. Think of it as flour mixing with oil and turning to pie dough.
You get rid of it by exfoliating. Start with a dry bath brush and bru**** before your shower. In the bath or shower use an exfoliating soap and scrub gently with a brush or loofah. You don't have to make yourself sore, and it might take a few days but your skin will be greatly improved.
