Hi everyone ! New here.

I'm looking to get a couple of questions answered. I had an appointment with my doctor the other day and he was the one who originally spoke about gastric bypass surgery. when he did something online they came up that I do not qualify because of my BMI .

my BMI is 35.2 and I have high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol which makes me qualified. I just want to know what I can do about this? And do I need a referral from my doctor or can I directly call a surgeons office ? I am located in Hamilton and can travel to Toronto. Who should I call ?

Thank you!

Hey, there is an Ontario forum -- you might be better off posting on there. Our process is different from everywhere else. In Ontario you need a family doctor to refer you to the Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN). It can be a doctor at a walk in clinic if yours won't refer you. I think it all has to be done online. OHIP should cover if your BMI is over 40 or over 35 with two co-morbidities.

If you don't qualify some people have paid for surgery in Quebec, the US, and Mexico.
