oenophilias post RNY
I asked a version of this question in the WLS vets forum, but then thought this might be the best place to go as I think my question is RNY specific...
I love big, bold, dry, red wines. I know I have to give them up... but my question to those of you who also are big wine lovers, is what are realistic long term options?
Can I "hope" for a time, five or ten years out, where I will be able to have a small (3oz.) glass of red wine with my little lamb chop? Or do I need to think of a small glass of red wine as just as out of bounds as Haagen Daz?
If red wine is no longer an option, have any of you found an non-alcoholic red wine that is palatable?
Thanks!

I don't think it's the alcohol that's the issue .. more the calories and carbs and the addictive temptation because we get so drunk so fast off so little alky-hol post op.
I drink wine every day but I'm definitely not everyone's poster child for model post op behavior lol .
I learned the hard way never to drink out in public .
Personally it hasn't made me fat but I cut it with lots of diet soda and lime juice. ( acts kind of like apple cider vinegar - dissolves the fat at least it's rumored to do so )
Yes it's called a wine spritzer and it actually tastes pretty good contains a lot of sun damage preventing vitamin C and most importantly doesn't get you bombed like even two glasses of straight red wine does me.
Fancy ****tails made with sugar syrup Always make me feel like rolling on the floor holding my stomach in agony ( it's called dumping) so that's totally out as an alternative.
I would never call alcohol non- fattening it is empty calories from sugar after all and it's hard to lose weight having more than a single glass of ( red ) wine with dinner at nite.
Still are studies that say that ( red ) wine does cut some fat calories/ tendency to put on stomach / abdominal fat out . It leans out your waist area in my experience- exactly where I put on / keep on unwanted weight ( please see the waist rolls in my post op pics)
White wine for some reason does not work like this . White wine also doesn't contain ageing - preventing antioxidants ( reservatrols) so I avoid it like the plague .
I think my most recent bikini pics actually look more defined than the older ones ... and the skin looks tighter too . Maybe those reservatrols are actually doing some good lol !
PS The bad news is " normal " especially American wine grapes get blasted with pesticides and are never washed before making the wine which sucks for the consumer. If you can't afford organic wines my advice is buy Chilean European or even Australian or Argentinian - way less poison.
ok, well first off my question was for her. second that was not her advice it was her answer to my question, third she did NOT say that adding something was a fact she specifically said rumored to do so. which means she wasnt sure that was a real thing but she tries to anyway. I'm not going to be rude, but please take judgement elsewhere i didnt not ask for advice i did not ask for your attitude, judgement, or opinion. we all know its not something we should do. neither is eating a piece of cake or soda ect. but people still do it!!! At the very least thanks for your concern.
ps. i know many who drink and have had no problems, just because some people cant handle it or develop addictions does not mean the rest of us should never do it again.

Well aren't you a snippy one. Two weeks out of surgery and you think you know everything.
I also know some people post WLS who drank and you know what? One is dead, one has gained all her weight back plus some and the third lost her job and her family because she turned into a raging alcoholic.
You obviously have no idea how alcohol affects people who have had WLS. Not to mention the stress it puts on your liver.
If you want to drink after surgery have at it, but you have no one to blame but yourself when you gain the weight back or worse end up killing someone because you were drinking and driving. If you think 1 beer or 1 glass of wine even cut with something does not impair you, boy are you in for a big surprise. You should be focusing on using your honeymoon period to lose as much weight as you can and not be so concerned with being able to drink down the road.
Your right, I know everything! Haha!
All I was doing was calling you out for not responding to the question but judging by your own experience and those around you. If you couldn't handle my honesty then that's on you!
Lastly I have never drank and drove in my life and I never will!!! So to take it to that level is un ******g real! Chill out darlin! Nobody was talking about driving or obsessively drinking! You do know not everybody becomes an alcoholic? Right? You do know that everybody is different and your experience and others you know experiences are not going to be the same right? You do know that you blew this out of proportion right? Simple post simple answers no one needed a lecture ma'am!
I am honest and snippy! If you can't handle it then don't respond something that had nothing to do with you! At least I stood up for her! Nobody asked for your judgement, especially not me! Bless your heart
