Weight gain 5 years post RNY
im 5 years post RNY. Lost 185 lbs. in the past year I've regained 30 lbs. my daughter passed away last June after a year fight with cancer. Just can't get over the hump to eat less and exercise. I'm 72 years old so I had my surgery when I was 67. The weight loss was the best thing that ever happened to me. I started living instead of just existing.
Where do I start? Just go back to basics. Should I go back to my protein shakes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Exercise and find what you love . If we want to see moving as a trial to be endured obviously it's not a lifestyle change. Thin/fit people find the activity they love and use it to relax like a daily glass of wine ... you CAN get that much pleasure from a great spin class yoga just TRY ((())) hugs
if this is true, then why don't you simply replace all the eine you want to drink with spin classes. It should be just as much fun to do spin classes.

go back to basics but not shakes. That really won't work any more.
Eat dense protein and non carby vegetables only. No bread, potatoes, cereal grains or anything carby.
The first several days will be terribly hard but after that it will become easier. Get in 64+ oz of liquid a day.
Sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard losing a daughter would be.
Is there a nutritionist in your surgeon's office? If so, I would suggest making an appointment with her and starting there. You can definitely get back on track and lose that 30 lbs. Good luck!

I'm so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.
I"m a newbie here, only 3 weeks post op, but from what I've read, I think dense protein, low carb, plenty of water, and tracking your meals on something like MyFitnessPal can really help. Try going for walks daily, if you can, or find something you enjoy more. I can't wait until I can start swimming and bike riding again.
If it feels too hard to change everything all at once, you can set mini goals, like, for the first week, try to track what you eat, then the second week, up your liquids, and the third week, add more dense protein, etc; until you reach your goals. Good luck; you can do this!
Big hugs,
Kathy

I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine losing a child.
You may want to track how much you eat on a typical day now and then cut back 500 calories a day. I would not do anything too restricted or you may not stick with it. Cut back on crappy carbs and make better choices.
As far as exercise goes, start by focusing on being more active. Do you have a fitness tracker? I love my fitbit. Walking for me helps me feel better mentally and physically. Start small and work up from there. Find something you love to do and do it.
Be kind to yourself for the regain. You did what you had to to get by but now it is time to focusing on being more healthy. You can do this!!

IN THE END WE ONLY REGRET CHANCES WE DIDN'T TAKE.
I am so sorry for your loss.
To lose regained weight, the most important thing is knowing it will take time. I lose by cutting out 500 calories a day and that gets me one pound a week.
To lose 30 pounds would take me 30 weeks.
When I have a gain, I mark the calendar for my goal for each week. Then I weigh on that day and make sure I am on track. Some weeks two pounds will come off, some weeks none.
For my day when I expect to hit goal, I decorate that day with colored ink and draw fireworks and exclamation points.
I cannot achieve a goal unless I assign dates to it. Without dates it just becomes a wish.
