Anyone have trouble losing on the pre-op liquid diet?

Three people in my pre-op support group were denied surgery at the final consult because they didn't meet the weight loss requirement. The one lady was right before me, and it scared the crap out of me!
The morning of my surgery, I was moved from second to first in line because the person before me failed the nicotine test.

The woman before me had gained weight on the pre-op liquid diet. There's no way she'd been compliant.

From my understanding (and following my surgeons preop instructions) everybody loses differently. I've been on my preop diet since the 8th and have lost 14 pounds, but my body is differently than yours. There are some who have done this and have lost 20+. My surgery is Wednesday and I can't imagine losing that much more.
Are they "requiring" you lose that amount of weight, or giving a general observation of what has happened in the past? No two bodies are exactly alike and stress can cause retention as well.
Their exact words were, they "expect" people to last 11-15 lbs on the diet. They didn't say what would happen if it didn't happen. Everyone keeps telling me as long as you follow the diet you will lose that much. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I have two options: 1. If by this Monday the weight loss hasn't picked up I can email my nutritionist for help and flat out ask what will happen. 2. I can do what I'm doing and show up for surgery on the 6th and hope the doctor is okay with what I've lost.
I'm also what I guess you would call a "lightweight" in the wls world. I have about 90 lbs to lose and I'm only 5'2".
If you are female (I am presuming you are based on your name shrinkingbeauty, but I suppose a man could also be a shrinking beauty) premenopausal and your period is due within the next week or so, it could be that. I never paid much attention to whether I retained water or weight around my period because I was already so overweight what was a few pounds, but since surgery and since I have been watching the scales so carefully, I realize that my menstrual cycle absolutely impacts whether or not I lose weight or not in any given week.
I note that you also mention you only have 90 lbs to lose. That's about what I had to lose when I had the surgery. It sounds like a LOT of weight, but compared to some people getting RNY it is not as much. Someone who has to lose 90 lbs v someone who has to lose 200 lbs will definitely lose at a slower rate. That is one of the things that I have to remind myself constantly. I have a WLS "buddy" on MFP and we share the same weekly weigh in day and surgery roughly the same time. She CONSISTENTLY loses more weight than me, ESPECIALLY at the beginning when she would lose 5-6 lbs a week and I would lose 3 or so. I thought I wasn't doing this right. But according to my doctor, nutritionist, and PT I am doing GREAT. It wouldn't hurt to call the doctor's office and explain what is going on and get clarification on whether you have to lose the same amount as anyone else. Just to ease your mind in case you are stressing over nothing. (I stress over nothing all the time! Silly me!)
The last thing I would say is not to be surprised if you suddenly drop a few pounds in one day. I weigh myself every day and some weeks the scales don't budge at all for several days in a row. I despair, thinking I have hit a plateau, and then a couple days later the scale says I have lost 3 lbs overnight. The scale and I have a "frenemy" kind of relationship.
Good luck and keep us posted on what happens!
Thank you! Yes, I often stress over nothing. It's just so frustrating to be doing everything and not see the results. Logically I know that since I have less to lose I won't drop as much. To me, losing 2.5 lbs in 6 days is good!
Also, for the person asking, I am 36 and while I haven't gone through menopause I got an ablasion in 2014 and haven't had a period since. Although, I'm sure my hormones still fluctuate from time to time. I have PCOS as well so my body is basically a hormone minefield.
I think I'm going to wait and see what happens over the weekend. If the weight loss doesn't pick up I will call my nutritionist and talk to her. Two her in following and not losing and ask her flat out if this is an absolute requirement.
