Anyone have trouble losing on the pre-op liquid diet?

My surgery is scheduled for March 6th. My doctor requires a two week liquid diet including shakes, broth, jello, water. He said they expect someone to lose 11-15 pounds in those two weeks. I'm on day 6 right now, almost half way through and I have only lost 2.5 pounds. I am following the diet to a T, no cheating, and I can't seem to get my weight to budge. I also do 40 mins on the treadmill every night. I'm really concerned because now I have 8 days to lose 8.5 lbs and with the way in losing it doesn't seem possible. My doctors office seems 100% confident that if someone follows the diet they will lose the weight. I must be an anomaly here. Has anyone had problems losing weight on the liquid diet? What can I do if I'm following the plan and still not losing?

If exercise is new, it will make you retain water. Short term, you'll lose a little better without exercise. Long term, it's obviously more healthy to exercise.

If you are honestly stickly strictly to a liquid diet, there is nothing else you can do.

I am 100% following the diet my doctor gave me. No cheating. That's why I'm so baffled.

I lost ten pounds in a week but mine had no protein shakes.  Jus****er, zero calories juices or soda, Jello, and broth.  Can you just do it without the protein shakes?  Also check everything to be sure it is zero calories.

I was drinking a cranberry juice that I thought was OK, but it was low-calorie, not diet and shot my blood sugar up close to 300.

Make sure you are also drinking a ton of water.  When the body thinks it is not getting enough water, it will hold on to every drop it can.  The sodium in the broth can also can you to retain water.

Good luck with this.

They require 70 grams of protien a day with the shakes. I did double check everything to make sure it's all sugar free and it is. Honestly though, I'm doing mostly the shakes and water anyway. I am having broth twice a day and I'm going to cut that out as well just in case is sodium.

that might be a good idea - I was thinking it might be the sodium in the broth, too.

When I started Weigh****chers in the 1970's the rule was no exercising other than what we had always been doing.  That made us lose quicker.

If the 40 minutes on the treadmill is new, then that is what is stopping you from losing.

All you can do is follow the plan.  Seems like a lot of offices use the threat of 'must lose the weight or the surgery will be cancelled' as a way of scaring patients into compliance, because sticking with such a diet can be really hard, especially that first week.  It's pretty rare that the surgery would actually be cancelled though, if the person follows the diet and doesn't lose as much as expected.  (does anyone know someone who actually had their surgery postponed or cancelled due to not losing enough on the 2-week preop?)

What is the caloric intake per day on this?

Yes, we've seen that happen to a lot of people. And testing positive for nicotine, as well.
