Stall - What am I doing wrong?
I don't understand at all. I'm well into week 3 (RNY on Feb 6) and i've only lost a total of 14 lbs. And nothing for the past few days. I'm eating soft foods and walking an average of 45 minutes a day. i'm building up my protein intake and drinking as much water as i can. I feel so discouraged.
If you search the forum for "Three Week Stall" you will see a whole bunch of posts about this. I had one, and I think that most everyone that I've ever talked to had a stall early on. Some start at week 1, or directly out of the hospital, and some start at week 3 or even a little later.
This is completely normal. Your body is adjusting to the changes. Just stick with it and I promise you that you will lose weight!
Congratulations on being to the other side! I have to admit: Makes me laugh to read this over and over from new people. Not at you ;) I went through this exact thing, as did so many people in this forum. I posted complaining of stalls. Here is the truth: Lot of people lose in a stair step fashion - few pounds down, then over for a while until the next drop. There was a discussion couple of months ago that I cannot remember exactly but the body needs two pounds of water for every pound of fat or something like that. When you body finally drops the fat it drops the water, which explains why drops are sometimes dramatic. Search stalls... there are lot of posts about them. When you read them, look at the weight tickers for the ones that use them... they did eventually lose weight, some of them LOT of weight!
Besides that, your body just (not even three weeks!) ago went through a major change, it was pumped full of IV fluids, and it is trying to recover. As long as you are doing what your surgeon recommends (probably rest, drink lots of water, walk, get adequate protein) you will lose the weight. I gained 10 pounds after my surgery. Just stick with the program. It works. Guaranteed ;)
I have a losing/stalling pattern. Three weeks losing, one week stalling, lather, rinse, repeat. It may have something to do with your cycle, but rest assured, it will end, and you will get back to losing before you know it!

I lost 15 pounds my first week then nothing weeks 2 and 3. By the end of week 4 I dropped 10 more! It's normal but I remember being so upset! You'll be fine just hang in there and give it time.

Wow! Thank you all for the encouragement. I'm so relieved to know this is common. Im working really hard on only eating the right foods. Cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt, fruit, some cooked veggies, and plain chicken. Im trying to introduce a few carbs like melba toast. So we'll see. I guess I just have to be patient and keep at it.
