I saw my doctor today. I am down 100 pounds and 9 pounds below my goal. Now I need to work on keeping it off. I am so glad I made the choice to become healthy. Good luck to everyone.

I went to Riverside in Columbus. Dr. Sonnanstein. He is an excellent surgeon. I had great care. Have you had surgery?

I have never heard that 5% thing....about people reaching goal in a year. Is that in your surgeon's practice?

Even after 15 years in this community, I learn something new, everyday...

I never heard of that either. What i heard that people who are less than 100 lbs above the weight goal - more like 50% to 70%can reach their goal in under 12 months.  I know I lost 115 lbs in `10 months total (inducing pre-op) and I was 10 lbs below my goal..

my doc expected anyone to reach their goal - normal BMI -within 1 year- for people who had 100 lbs lo lose ,and 18-24 months for anyone who had more weight to lose.  Depends on their health, mobility, genetics and how long they were MO prior to the WLS..

I'm not sure where tha 5 percent comes in. He says this at all of seminars. He would like for all of his patients to reach that goal in a year but only 5 percent do.

it's not realistic for those of us who need to lose a lot more. I lost 170 in 14 months to get to a BMI of 22. The most important part to me is that I am still at a BMI of 22 eight years later.

Amen to that, Laura!!! I lost my first 100 in 6 months...considerably longer for the rest, but am coming up on 15 years, and am 12 pounds, under goal, this morning
